Have Blur fallen out of Orbit?
As previously reported,
producer William Orbit has worked with Blur on a few tracks
since last January. However, later comments from the band revealed that
only one new track, "Under The Westway", has been in the
making. Now William Orbit has hinted on Twitter that the
collaboration between him and the band is over.
When a fan yesterday (Mar
28) asked William about the latest happenings in the Blur camp,
he
replied [link down]:

As usual, no comments
from the band nor their management have emerged yet.
Damon recently told
The Quietus about the background of "Under The Westway"
and revealed that the song, which was actually composed years
ago, could be Blur's "last little coda".
"Funnily enough I've
done a new tune for Blur, I don't know if it will ever see the
light of day. It's something I've had knocking about for years
and didn't know what to do with it," he said.
"I wrote it as a
slightly wistful national anthem for my house, I had this idea
of getting it made into an old 78 record and making a flag and
then just playing it - just being really silly. But I had
these chords and I ended up writing this tune around it... I
don't really do anything with Blur any more - there's this
concert this year but it's not a full time thing at all. Maybe
this tune's a last little coda to the whole story."

Blur to call
it a day after Hyde Park?

Damon
has shed some more light about Blur's current situation and
future plans. He was
interviewed by The Guardian about three weeks ago
and revealed that "Under The Westway" was recorded
in one take by the band, and that there will probably be no more Blur
recordings and live gigs after Hyde Park.
"And
I hope that's the truth: that that's how we end it," he said.
Speaking about the recording
process of "Under The Westway", he said: "We recorded it
live in one take. It's the first Blur song where it's been one take,
because previously I never finished the lyrics before we
recorded. This time, I'd done that, so we were actually able
to perform it - which is quite nice, because I don't
really see any more recordings after this. So it's nice to
have finally done one song where we did it properly."
He added: "I find
it very easy to record with Graham. He's a daily musician.
With the other two, it's harder for them to reconnect. You
know what I mean? It's fine when we play live – it's really
magical still – but actually recording new stuff, and swapping
musical influences… it's quite difficult."
Another
The Guardian article claims that "Under The Westway"
is set to be released as a one-off single around the time of
Blur's Hyde Park performance in August.

Damon: Blur
and Gorillaz aren't finished yet
Excerpt
from an interview with Damon in
Metro (Apr 25):
Are Blur and Gorillaz both
finished?
No. That comes from an
article which was an interesting take on a very long
conversation. I don't know how we'll feel when we play
Hyde Park. Some days I feel one way and other days I
feel the other. If you don't see something as a career
but as an important part of your life, you don't know
how you're going to feel about it. We want to put on a
great performance but nothing's been said between us
about the beginning or the end.
What about Gorillaz?
When Jamie [Hewlett] and
I have worked out our differences, I'm sure we'll make
another record. |
