The return of SLEEPER!

Post by dparrott » 02 Mar 2019, 17:55

First song in 20 years. Kind of generic back then but they had a few great songs.

Yeah, it's good news.
Was pretty keen on them back in the day. I had their middle album and liked a few singles.
Didn't like 'What a Good Girl' though so didn't bother with their last album.
Bought a best-of recently though which has some great songs off their last album.
Will prob take a chance on the new one as the single's pretty good.

Louise Wener was just insanely hot back in the day. Kinda liked some of the tunes too :)

The tunes and look of the band were fantastic. I'm excited for their new album! Glad they have Stephen Street as producer again. I'm going to an album signing at Rough Trade East where they're playing a small gig afterward... can't wait!!

Nice (8/10) review here - www.xsnoize.com/album-review-sleeper-the-modern-age/
Anyone know when it's actually released?

I liked them a lot. The singles were immediate for the time, though the album tracks could be a less invigorating listen - as dparrot mentions, they could slip into a kind of generic indie, but so did many other acts.

As with Neal Zeal, I overlooked the third album - indie/Britpop was taking a sudden decline in popularity, with lower chart placings and less airplay.

Retrospectively, I find that the third album is no worse than the others and has some good tracks.

Yes, it was her 'girl next door who goes to college' appeal - it was quite something. :D

Saw them again last night and they were fantastic. Not had a chance to get into the album properly yet but the song ‘The Modern Age’ is superb.

Sadly couldn't make it. Work got in the way. But received the signed LP and single.
Really enjoying the record. A few clichés, but there are great standout tracks too. Car into the sea and the title track are my favourites. Very well produced by Stephen Street. 7/10 from me
Also Looks like the Modern age will hit top 10 in the UK... Amazing considering their last LP was 22 years ago.

Oh, wish I'd known about tonight - would've gone. Hope it's fun.
I've bought the album but my CD player has broken!
Be nice if it reaches the top 10. Don't think any recent singles have received much airplay so the album will disappear from the chart pretty rapidly but hopefully they'll be sufficiently enthused to keep the reunion going. A much underrated group!

It was great! They had a couple difficulties - drummer was in a car accident (he's okay!) and the keyboardist had a sick child (also ok thankfully!) But they still put on a charming show. You could tell they were having a lot of fun. Louise called it "half-unplugged" ha! And they were super kind at the signing afterward. Mentioned I really love Stephen Street and that he did a great job on this record, and they talked about what a great guy he is. All in all, a lovely night - and al for the price of their record!

Great to see them in good form, on and off stage.

True pros dealing with a car accident and family illness - hopefully these things will be OK.
