The Streets
Had hoped to find the post going back a few years when Mike Skinner said Damon needed to give up as he was too old, I'm sure you can guess where this is going...

I should add that i have a lot of time for The Streets, OPM remains an incredible album, but this comment was always gonna bite him

That first article is over 6 years old.

Re: The Streets
Everything Is Borrowed used to be one of my favourites, and I haven't thought about listening to it for ages. Thanks for the thread, Doug!

Re: The Streets
The tour keeps growing, but I won't be able to see them live. I doubt there will be any American dates ever.
And Mike can have his opinion, but I don't think there's ever a mandatory retirement age. Especially for those that are a bit mad (look at David Byrne!)

Re: The Streets
I forgot all about The Streets. Now I'm going to have to forget about them all over again.

Re: The Streets
Yes he did make the quote originally about not acting like a younger man on stage at the tender age of 33... Given his quote was around the time of HP Blur gigs, it seemed strange that such a smart guy hadn't seen the possibility of getting the band back together one more time himself...stephen wrote:That first article is over 6 years old.

Re: The Streets
Strangely enough they are just playing The Streets on BBC 6Music, as I came onto this thread.
I didn't dislike them, though I never got into them. I guess they have a heritage now.

Re: The Streets
Mike Skinner is more a person of unique eyes and wordplay than he is a musician. He made two great albums and some lacklustre ones but amongst it he's given out some great advice and left me with some beautiful moments... the last song he did as The Streets was Lock the Locks. I loved that one. Something sweet about a band's final song and them knowing it.
They to me don't seem an act that needs to be back together. How much excitement really is there? They were popular once upon a time and their few hits still get some playing but eh, what a dumb decision it was.

Re: The Streets
Looks like there's a bit of cross over with blur / streets fans.
He always seems a bit of a chav to me. Some of the songs are OK but I wouldn't call myself a superfan.

I am thinking that as well, though I hadn't thought of it before.stephen wrote:Looks like there's a bit of cross over with blur / streets fans.
Maybe they both have a 'British-ness' about them?

Re: The Streets
Used to like the streets a lot. I don't know what's is it with Damon. I agree original pirate material is still a great album.
