I think every indie band sounded like this at one point! At 1:09 it reminds me of Half the World away, naughty noel...Moritz wrote:I don't know if this was ever the object of a discussion, but dit The Jesus and Mary Chain influence Blur? They toured together etc., but was it ever mentioned or audible?
By the way, the sound of Far Gone And Out always reminds me a little bit of Bang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v4AAd00dSQ

I went for an open day at university today and I met Cliff Jones, who told me the story of how he peddled for Blur to appear on the cover of the Face's Union Jack cover after he heard a 2.5" CD of Girls & Boys, despite his colleagues telling him that Blur were finished.

Great story AB.
If Blur hadn't released 'Girls & Boys' when they did, they may well have struggled.

Re: general blur thread
It is often written that Look Inside America is about touring in the USA (By the way: One of the best bits from the self titled album). But is it more from the 1992 tour or from the later, short tour legs in 1995/1996? Both could be possible.
Re: general blur thread
The line "got an ad on KROQ" (L.A. radio station) kinda points to 95/96. They weren't popular enough for that in 1992.

I always think of this when I hear that song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD3jTSTLLhI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think the last part of the Great Escape tour was a bit rough..I think I've read somewhere that they were supposed to tour through the summer of 96, but ended the tour around easter (With only a few summer shows)

I need to set a side a couple of hours to watch this, the crowd sound dreadful.Petter wrote:I always think of this when I hear that song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD3jTSTLLhI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: general blur thread
Interesting points. Did they enjoyed a lot of airplay on stations like KROQ or local stations? They must be a good group of fans, because the spring tour in 1996 was sold out. Where this gigs well supported by press?
Re: general blur thread
Here in LA it was probably only the late night shows they got airplay. It wasn't until Song 2 dropped that they got more airtime. Barely any press that I remember, that's why my first gig was in 96 because I kept missing them.
Re: general blur thread
Ah, cool. So I guess you went to the gig at the Wiltern? Was it a good show? I wonder if they travelled by train or plane, because I heard that they tried to avoid the stress of the 92 tour and so they prefered the plane on later tours.
