New Charlatans album !?!
Drops TOMORROW! Yet another album release NME fails to mention. I gotta stop relyin on those fools.
Johnny Marr plays on three songs, and Paul Weller's on the final song.

Good point - I didn't know about it either.
Don't know if 6Music have mentioned it. They have highlighted Black Grape, who also have a forthcoming album.

I enjoyed Different Days quite a lot. More than I was expecting, honestly. Anybody else listened?
Also, what about echobelly's new album that released on the same day? I thought it was a bore. Shame, really.

Re: New Charlatans album !?!
I gave up on The Charlatans in the mid-late 2000s. The 'Up At The Lake' album did little for me, and I saw them live and it was routine.
Maybe Tim Burgess is revitalised now?

Re: New Charlatans album !?!
Those albums passed me by unfortunately.
I did watch this over the weekend. Tim Burgess still lacks any middle-aged spread compared to his bandmates. And looking reminiscent of The Stones Brian Jones:

I have really enjoyed their last two, saw them end of 2015 for first time, very impressed, looking forward to seeing again.
Re: New Charlatans album !?!
Very good album. A little bit heavy on the drum machines and some of the choruses are too simplistic/lazy, but still very good overall.

Re: New Charlatans album !?!

Part of the original appeal of The Charlatans, in the 'baggy' period, was that they got away from that.
That said folks, I will take your word on the positivity of the latest album. I hope it is good

I agree with you, and it's baffled me ever since the late 1990s how those GREAT airtight grooves that Martin Blunt and Jon Brookes used to so effortlessly lock into went by the wayside. Ever since Brookes died, they seem to be trying to make the drums/percussion take a distant back seat to the songs (and they haven't replaced him with any official new member on drums).Mallard No. 22 wrote:The Charlatans and drum machines are two phrases that I don't associate.

Still, a very solid, good album.

Re: New Charlatans album !?!
I bought all of the 90s albums and played them quite a lot. I still re-visit them as part of my general interest in the early-mid 90s music period.
At the time, I noticed a change in style with 'Wonderland' in 2001, though I quite liked it. Unfortunately, 'Up At The Lake' did nothing for me - and I haven't bought new material by them since.

Up at the Lake was *okay* but not great. Simpatico is good and the last few have all been excellent.
