1 year without Blur: January 14th 2014 Budokan

Post by JAIME » 14 Jan 2015, 13:56

Blur made the last show exactly 1 year ago, in the Budokan.

Thoughts about this last concert?
Do you think that Blur will do a gig again, or that was the end?

I think this was a good concert. I was happy with the Japan gigs mainly because they played Yuko and Hiro, one of my favorites! However, and this may just be wishful thinking, I don't believe it will be blur's last gig of all time. Since the members (Damon and Graham in particular, who throughout last year hung out together quite a bit whether it be for their bday parties or Heavy Seas gigs) all seem to be on really good terms ever since 2008/2009, and still seem to genuinely enjoy playing together and still bring energy when they perform, I think more gigs are inevitable. Hopefully it won't be too far away, but if it's anytime I'd be guessing around 2017/2018 (after Damon is done with the world tour that would most likely follow a new Gorillaz album.) Crossing my fingers that in that time they'll FINALLY finish a new album, that way we wouldn't be getting the same greatest hits setlist we've gotten for years now. If a new album was to follow the next Gorillaz one, I really hope Damon doesn't just take unused Gorillaz songs and put them on a blur record. I'd love to see Damon write songs specifically for blur (and in doing so actually writes some choruses, which he and Graham seem to hate lately haha) that put more of a focus on Graham's guitar parts/include more classic Graham melodies (which I believe the three reunion songs lacked at times), and have Alex and Dave working to become "everyday musicians" again, even if it's just for that album. I just want it to feel cohesive. Us fans deserve more blur!

I have nothing wrong with songs that don't have choruses, but if you do it as much as Damon does, and the songs aren't short, then they're going to be pretty fucking boring.

I did wonder. I was online when the first 'Moan, moan, moan' was posted in the Blur pictures thread. But I thought if that's his preferred opening gambit, he's probably not in the mood to chat much, so left it.

Highly unlikely that it's Graham. Please take no notice.

I know - that's the other reason I didn't reply really. Doubted as to whether it's really him.

Highly unlikely, but oh I wish...
