Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
I LOVE I Broadcast, but I can't vote for them all! Something's gotta give.
Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
I think it's sublime. Graham's little interlude is beautiful and it sounds so so good on the third time round when the underlying chord changes to a D, while Graham plays the same notes. Really lovely.devoiced wrote:poor "New World Towers"![]()
A really good song that, on most albums for most bands, would have been a star...but in this company of great tracks...sorry
Just wish they'd come up with the 'seven on the left hand side' bit before they recorded it.

The bit after the chorus in Pyongyang, which keeps alternating between G and Gm and has a bunch of "lalalas" in the live version, is so tame in the studio version! I was waiting for it to just explode in the 10 seconds of sweet chaos that the live version has. The chorus in the studio version on the other hand has a beautiful harmony. Great song nonetheless.
Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
Who would have thought Ghost Ship would top every other song? At least for now.

Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
listened through about 5 times now, in addition to the live stuff and the officially releas tracks as they came out,
and its still a 6/10 for me, its a solid record, but i've heard better, ive heard much better blur records
that being said , for being recorded in 5 days, it does have some strong tracks
Pyongyang
I Broadcast
Lonesome Street
Icecream Man
Go Out
There Are Too Many Of Us - really has grown on me
a few i cant deice on,
New World Towers (parts are beautiful, parts are awful and sound too much like a GBQ reject - im torn on this one)
Ghost Ship- never feels like a blur song
Mirrorball
and, these last 3 - in any order - worthy to be on the worst of!
Spaceman
Ong Ong
My Terracotta Heart
a mixed bag for sure

Ha, that's exactly why I love it - it's a totally new sound for all of them. If there's a song here that points the way to album #9, that's the one.

Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
It reminds me a lot of Terry Halls solo stuff, so it's not that unfamiliar as The Specials have always had a huge impact on Blur. Still I wouldn't have expected that sound on a Blur album in 2015, so it's quite a nice surprise.
Re: Favourite TMW Studio Versions?
When the stream came out yesterday I was immediately drawn to Ice Cream Man, Ghost Ship and Pyongyong because they contained a new Blur sound. That's why The Magic Whip is so great! But today I've listened to Lonesome Street, Go Out and Ong Ong more because they remind of me the Blur sound that we all know and love. The album contains so much it's unbelievable.
The only songs I haven't fully gotten into yet are Spaceman and Mirrorball. I like them of course it's just that I've been completely taken with the other songs. I'll get to them soon.

1. I Broadcast
2. Go Out
3. Lonesome Street
As i've said wish I could feel the emotion in Pyongyang, struggling...but it really really could happen!

If Ice Cream Man had been released first and we had heard Go Out the other day, the votes above would be reversed...

I love it (Ghost ship)... I'm wary of saying this, but it does remind me slightly of the Piña Colada song.
On another note Ice cream man is my least favourite.
