Swallows In The Heatwave and Polished Stone!!
Mega underrated. Noisy, grungy even. Graham excels! Should be played live now - would work very well adjacent to St Charles Square…

I put me trousers on, have a cup of tea, and think about leaving the house...

Could (perhaps should) have been on the album too. Amazing songs. I’d have dropped MOR and On Your Own so these two could have been included.

Re: Most underrated Blur songs
To be fair, Swallows wasn’t recorded (or perhaps even written) when the album came out.

Re: Most underrated Blur songs
I always thought He Thought of Cars was very highly rated which is why I didn’t put it in my list.
It is hard to say what is underrated because one sound could be massive in one country but obscure in another.
Re: Most underrated Blur songs
Agreed! I should have included it as well. Such a good track, very overlooked by most.tom_cas1 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2023, 04:45High Cool: This really should have been a single instead of Bang. Not that Bang is bad by any means, it's a great track. Just a little repetitive. High Cool has everything. I never really see it mentioned on or off the forum. Probably my favourite track on Leisure.
Pretty sure they were recorded after the album was released.

All true. That’s why it’s hard to quantify - is it underrated to one person, the band or someone else? For me, He Thought Of Cars should have been a setlist staple since 1995 (and especially once Damon started playing guitar live starting in 1997), but they ditched it after summer ‘96 and it took 20 years to get back in the set for a mere six performances.MsMagicAmerica wrote: ↑12 Aug 2023, 20:06I always thought He Thought of Cars was very highly rated which is why I didn’t put it in my list.

No justice, I tells ya.

A bit off topic, but I was just listening to Deja Vu by Gorillaz and I was reminded how fucking underrated that song is. Like, massively. It's so catchy and good on every possible level. I wonder if it's just me, but I am convinced that if it was released as a proper single with a prominent feature artist (e.g. Dua Lipa), it would have topped the charts in many countries.

Yep, we need some kind of definition for 'underrated'.Redneck wrote: ↑13 Aug 2023, 15:40All true. That’s why it’s hard to quantify - is it underrated to one person, the band or someone else? I would suggest a song that wasn't a commercially successful single, rarely gets played live, and rarely gets banged on about round here!

I'm baffled why He Thought Of Cars isn't on every setlist since its release.

I'm actually quite fond of Ultranol which I don't ever see people mention. Fits in the dystopia described by The Universal quite well.

I was thinking of Ultranol too. I’ve always liked it but no one usually mentions it.

Right? Sarcastic but not judgemental, a lovely little song. And I like the huge Ultranol capsule prop on stage during that era.101reykjavik wrote: ↑15 Aug 2023, 15:35I was thinking of Ultranol too. I’ve always liked it but no one usually mentions it.

Was that the one that only came out live with no studio version? I remember liking MeanwhileRubi wrote: ↑14 Aug 2023, 14:37A bit off topic, but I was just listening to Deja Vu by Gorillaz and I was reminded how fucking underrated that song is. Like, massively.
