ok so like i need to play more like gram cracker...
so can the guitar players on this forum give me any tips on how he plays guitar?
like in the song “french song” gram does this little guitar lick that goes da-dada-da-da—DdadDAdadDa—da-dada-da-da—DDadadDada.
can anyone tell me how to do that bc i’ve tried and it’s kinda weird i’ve seen my friend mason do it and i’m just here like 🤯
also any tips on how gram makes riffs would be appreciated, like a riff would usually follow a chord progression. but like it’s so hard for me to come up with a riff.
like in there’s no other way and bang, he isn’t just strumming chords he’s doing a lot of cool “”stufff””” as he made his guitar parts really complicated...but you can like hear the chords as well when he’s doing riffs and i need to know how to do that
thanksss!!!

Really offhand, the riff for French Song should be:

Code: Select all

----------------------
----------------------
-----------------_----
----------------6-4---
-4-6-6-4-6----6-----6-
----------------------
Where I indicate a left hand pull-off with the underscore. It's possible that he plays a quick hammer-on then pull-off, tho. So something like:

Code: Select all

----------------------
----------------------
----------------___---
----------------464---
-4-6-6-4-6----6-----6-
----------------------
And then he dubs it to the third above:

Code: Select all

----------------------
----------------___---
----------------353---
-3-5-5-3-5----5-----5-
----------------------
----------------------
Hammer-on's and pull-off's are really important in Graham's playing, it's a trademark of his style.

Another example with this kind of technique would be the riff for On Your Own. Incidentally the first Graham part I ever learnt to play, mooooons ago.

Code: Select all

-----7----0---2---------
--__-7---_0---2---------
-7878---01----3---------
--------------4---------
------------------------
------------------------
(The blblblblblbblbl sound at the end of the riff is basically a delay pedal with knobs set to the max... if I understood correctly. :) )

Ouch. I never quite analysed the riff for Explain... Here's what I can come up with right now:

Code: Select all

---------------------------
------_--------_-------_---
-----3-0------3-0---4-4-0--
-----3-0------3-0---4-4-0--
---------------------------
-3-3-------1-1----2--------
I think it should basically be that... It's played a bit rough and messy, like you can here the higher two strings ring throughout.

Alright so excuse my disappearance a lot of stuff happened that caused me to be offline for a bit, but now im ok.

Anyway so i think explain is a bit hard to play in live it seems that he only uses frets 3 to 5 it doesnt make sense to me bc i try to play it one way with like power chords and no bar chords? idkk if anyone else has any more graham techniques that theyd like to show me f e e l f r e e t o d o s o
