Yes, a social history, as well as a Blur history.

I agree - interesting how this tallies with my original view of Blur in the early 90s, that they were a 'cult' artist that were most likely to have a limited, but dedicated following.

Such cult artists do tend to endure through time. :D

Would love tweedz to have a read of these.

My old man was a publican. One time during the eighties my mom came upstairs to the living quarters and said to me 'Our Darrens in the lounge with his girlfriend asking after you'

So I went downstairs and had a beer with him 'Mate' he says 'I am knocking about with this band, called Blur' 'Never heard of em' says I 'Gonna be bigger than The Jam' he says 'err right Ok mate' says I

The rest is history

(I have no idea how things work on this website)
I only recently joined this forum due to finding it online a few weeks back / seeing this thread. Being only 16, I understandably had never listened to any blur records when they were released (I'm hoping no one will condemn me for this). However, over the last few years I discovered them and decided to listen to them. They are now my favourite band (along with The Smiths). I have many of their records (rarest one is only the greatest hits one) and tons of their songs on my iPod. I only started listening to them because I listened to This Charming Man by The Smiths and discovered Charmless Man at the same time. I know a lot of people hate it but I still enjoy it, but after that I have listened to blur constantly. I thought I'd never get the chance to see them but when Hyde Park was announced I bought tickets and then managed to get tickets for the Blackpool warmup gig. It is probably gonna be one of the best days (awful reference) of my life, I am already anticipating how good they will be live. I'm hoping to complete my vinyl collection (eventually) over the next year or so... and maybe contribute to this site more? I think it's obvious to see that every one here has complete dedication for blur...

Do at lot of people hate Charmless Man? Maybe they do, I always liked it though. Ye good live band. One of the better live bands. Between his randomness on stage and how he engages with the crowd and brings them into it, they are hard to beat live if your up front.

Welcome to the forum! As for Charmless Man, I love it myself, particularly for Graham's sublime guitar work. It's just not as great as several (dozens really) of other Blur songs. I think that's probably the general consensus around this board too.

When the activity around 'The Magic Whip' eases off, I hope tweedz takes a look. And find out about Blur's impact on social history, through more than one generation of people.

Concert ticket stubs are good little mementoes. I tended to keep mine inside the relevant album covers.
