Near misses
Random question but ..Has anyone come close to seeing blur in the past and not been able to make it or something similar? I was just thinking, last year I was supposed to be seeing damon at RAH. Didn't end up getting tickets and I accepted that fact. I ended up going for a coffee at the RAH in the evening, forgetting that the show was that night and I saw everyone setting up and ive never been so envious and left out in my life haha

Re: Near misses
I had near miss with that Mode gig... I felt so lucky to get a ticket, then my wife's dad passed away suddenly that morning.
I was left thinking 'how on earth can I go 'oh, that's sad dear, I should be back just before midnight... I'm sure that's what he would've wanted.' I was also stuck in all day whilst she was at the hosp, not knowing when she'd be back, or whether I had the school run to do and whatnot. I still can't quite believe I managed it. It was a bit of a quick flit in and out, but I'd have been bitter forevermore if I'd missed that.
I did miss Graham's Spinning Top performance at The Barbican, work got in the way of that one. I had to give the tickets away, but I'd caught it previously in Cambridge & Nottingham so wasn't too hacked off.

Re: Near misses
Not exactly a near miss, but I bought tickets for Hyde Park in 2009, then couldn't go due to various reasons (mainly exams).

Re: Near misses
I had tickets to see Graham in Oxford when he toured A&E in 2012 but sadly couldn't make it in the end. Can't remember why now. I had seen him a number of times before though (2006 at the Astoria and multiple venues in 2009). Annoyingly I also missed Tenacious D at Brixton Academy a month or so later because I completely forgot the day.

Re: Near misses
Not a proper "near miss", but in the second half of 1999 Blur confirmed its 1st concert ever in Chile for November, so I started saving money to buy my ticket and to buy the ticket to travel to Santiago. Around September I already had enough money to buy the tickets, but in October it was cancelled due to political/diplomat reasons ("Pinochet case")

Re: Near misses
I had tickets for 100 Club but had a near death experience from food poisoning so never made it! I just about made Wolves, so all was not lost!

Re: Near misses
Mile End 1995 had the ticket but missed out due to not getting the time off work! (Sold the the ticket though) and the 2009 warm ups and Hyde Park also due to work.

Re: Near misses
I had a ticket to Hyde Park 2009 but I forgot the date and then booked a holiday in Italy for my wife and I for the same week. I did this because I'm such a VAST, MASSIVE PILLOCK.

Re: Near misses
I blacked out from booze about 30 minutes into the second Hyde Park 2009 show. I've never been able to bring myself to listen to the live albums of that year or watch the previous day's set from the documentary DVD.
Re: Near misses
Why would you get wasted before a show? Isn't the whole point to go and listen to the music? I can understand a couple of beers, but to the point of blacking out? Stupid, in my opinion.
