underrated

Post by elasticaman » 30 Apr 2015, 22:22

seems there are a lot of songs that dont get the love they deserve round these parts, or from the band actually

It Could Be You
On Your Own
MOR - single version especially
Look Inside America
I'm Just A Killer For Your Love
Movin On - especially live/ remix version (album version feels a little flat)
Swamp Song
No Distance Left To Run

to name a few off the top of my head, some of my real favourites

Your first two for sure. It Could Be You is great, and On Your Own is one of the first Blur songs I played to fuckin death. Trying to think of what I'd add... maybe

Slow Down (not really sure if it's underrated or not)
Fool
Good Song I feel is the most underrated single

Im drawing a blank

Its hard to say what's underrated because aside from the fan favourites and fan hates, its very much each to their own.

Having said that I find these don't get mentioned enough:
On Your Own
Oily Water
Miss America
1992
Globe Alone
Music is My Radar
My Ark
Brothers and Sisters
Fried
Shimmer

Plus the generally dismissed..
Top Man
Crazy Beat
People in Europe
Jets
MPRBC

I'd be happy to take everything from your list and put it on my list too. Apart from Crazy Beat... the thing about Crazy Beat is that if any other band pulled a Crazy Beat everyone would say it's a good tune - the thing is in the context of a Blur album, they've set the bar ridiculously high for themselves. What I'm trying to say a bad Blur song is still a good song.

If I were to pick some, I'd say :

Oily Water
Miss America
Bang
Far Out
Fade Away
This is not a signature.

I always loved Bang and never understood why the band doesn't rate it. Even the video is cool.

funnily enough, i'd say that Best Days was overrated round these parts. sure it falls in betwen "This Is A Low" and "To The End" musically, but lacks that emotional kick... feels very dry and forced

quite a few people mentioning fade away. i'd say its a good vocal set against a godawful musical backdrop. one of the worst offenders IMO

funnily i just played it on youtube, and then the autoplay put on It Could Be You, what a great tune that really is, one of the real highlights in TGE, how its so overlooked i have never understood. should have been a uk single for sure

anyone dislike It Could Be You??? if so why?
