Best album closing track?

Post by jordanmoore » 28 Apr 2015, 11:01

I've started this thread with a bit bias off the back of listening to Mirrorball a few times — I feel it's their best closer just edging over the beautiful Resigned from MLIR and Optigan 1 from my favourite album, 13. Anyone else enjoying it as much as I am?

This is a Low has always been the standard bearer for album closers IMO. It is absolutely perfect in tone, emotion...everything.

Mirrorball is their best closer since TIAL and a worthy rival for best closing track they ever did. It's magnificent.

I love all of their closers. Wear me Down and Yuko and Hiro are so good.
But as endings to an album....

Its not, Lot 105 is the album closer to Parklife.

Lot 105 is the last track on the album. Is that not the definition of an album closer?

I'm going for Yuko & Hiro, a really succinct full stop on a brilliant shifting album.

Don't worry! I wouldn't know either how to attach a poll but hopefully someone will? ;)

I think if you go to the original post and press edit, there's an option on the bottom to add one.

If not, just tempt a mod in with a steak and get them to do it.

I've owned Parklife since 9am on the day it was released and I've never seen Lot 105 as the real album closer. It's just an incidental piece tacked on to the end. The equivalent of a post-credits scene in a film. The final scene will always be the final scene, regardless of whether or not there is a post-credits scene.

It's like Resigned/Commercial Break on MLIR. Is Commercial Break the closer? No. Only difference is that is grouped in the same track as Resigned, whereas TIAL and L105 were separated.

It's all semantics really but no one will ever convince me that TIAL isn't Parklife's closer.

So that rules out Optigan 1 on 13 then...as you put it "It's just an incidental piece tacked on to the end" so end of thread I guess

See I don't think TIAL would work as a full-on closer. It's so emotional and dramatic and Parklife for the whole is a cheekier, chirpier album than that. I think it needs that little suffix of Lot 105, personally. Or equivalent.
