Day After Rank (The Magic Whip)

Post by munch » 22 Apr 2015, 07:39

This will most likely be very difficult to do. Properly we will of course rank albums a few months or even a year after The Magic Whips release. But right now we are trying to connect it with our Blur collection. How does it connect and how does it compare?
To me it still feels quite distance from the past albums. Just because I've been so comfortable with only having those for so long.

So I thought it would be interesting to try, for the moment. Very shortly after first full hearing of the album (Itunes or whatever else) where you would rank The Magic Whip among the albums. (1 being the best of course)

To make it trickier, you are not allowed to put multiple albums beside one number.

I'll start *gulp*

1. Modern Life is Rubbish
2. Blur
3. The Magic Whip
4. Think Tank
5. The Great Escape
6. Parklife
7. 13
8. Leisure

Nope, can't do it. It's way too early.

Agree that it feels distant at the moment. That said...

1. 13
2. The Magic Whip
3. Modern Life Is Rubbish
4. Parklife
5. Think Tank
6. Leisure
7. Blur
8. The Great Escape

It doesn't quite edge 13 out at the moment, but I do think it could take that #1 spot over time.

This at the moment I think - but it feels a bit silly. I don't really know to be honest.

way too hard. haven't even had the album in my hands really. and the order changes every month anyway.

if you ask me now, the magic whip would be #1 just because it is the album i am listening to the most. still, i am way older now then when the great escape or 13 were released, so it will probably be less defining as there are lots of other things happening in life compared to when i was a teenager or in my early 20s, so the impact will be different and judging the quality of an album always has something to do with the very personal relationship to the music, what it really means to someone. at least for me. so, now the magic whip would obviously be #1 right now, but you wanted a ranking and no essay, so here it is:

1. modern life is rubbish 10/10
2. the great escape 10/10
3. 13 10/10
4. the magic whip 10/10
5. parklife 10/10
6. blur 9/10
7. think tank 9/10
8. leisure 5/10

I agree. Not only will the music cement properly in our minds in months to come but we'll also enjoy it for the time it has given us on release. My love for Out of Time (Although it is an amazing song) is very important to me just because of that time in life. As well as Charmless Man. I think Go Out and Terracotta Heart may be the same.
Months to come my participation on this forum will become a very important part of The Magic Whip and how it sounds to me.
