There's a lot of synth on this track and Graham's guitar work is far more subdued.
I can see why people would think it sounds like Damon's solo stuff.
i bet this one will sound better live.

Typical, I go to bed early last night and this happens so come to this a bit late. :P Can't read the whole thread right now.

Wow! What a surprise. First off, I really like it, not what I expected. It does sound a bit like Gorillaz to me too but that's not a criticism. I really enjoy the opening section particularly with the militaristic beat - subtle reference to the oppressive Chinese regime in HK or am I reading too much into it maybe!! That's what a thought of anyway...

The general sound threw me a bit after Go Out which was spiky and noisy, this is something completely different - sombre and reflective. It gives me belief the album will be properly rounded as a Blur album should be with different sounds and textures throughout. My slight fear was that the compressed, short recording session in HK may have prevented the necessary time for diverse ideas to emerge. Only heard it twice though so requires many more listens to really get to know it! So exciting!

Just reading back through the thread... So are people still thinking that this isn't in fact the song to be revealed on Monday? I'd hate this to be an actual leak, and not just have snuck out a few days early. My first assumption was this is the new single, but maybe not. Do we get Lonesome Street on Monday? I don't want the album ruined by leaks - any more and I'm abstaining!

I feel a bit down reading some of your comments talking that the new song sounds like Gorillaz...I hope the rest of the album not sounds like them....

Don't be! The first two songs we've heard are hugely different so I'm confident the album as a whole will be diverse. I'm sure it won't be Gorillaz by any other name - after all, Graham and Street worked on it the most so that's got to mitigate the potential for a Gorillaz sound surely?

I was hoping to see its April 1st on the calender after hearing this. Unfortunately, it seems this is actually a new Blur track. As well as being excited about the new album, I did also worry that we might get something way below the bar they've previously set. This is worse than Crazy Beat. At least it's something different, there will hopefully be a few good tracks for the tour, but this might be the first blur album I don't rush for on release date.

Obviously this is just my opinion, and anyone else is as qualified as me, or under-qualified, to have their own view on it.

Wow, fair enough not liking it, but the Crazy Beat comment is ridiculous! There is no comparison between the two.

Beautiful song, I am loving it!
