Blur and the Magic Whip (blog post)

Post by MrMagpie » 28 Feb 2015, 02:46

New post on my site where I discuss where Blur and their music fit in and hold meaning for me in 2015. I'm sure most, if not all of you here, will feel much the same :)

Very well put MrMagpie, my love of the band with the many up's in the 90's and my obsession for this band since 2003 despite the never ending saga of the will they won't they make new material. And I too like many have got married, had children, changed career etc between the release of Think Tank ant The Magic Whip. My reaction was very similar to the news, although for a moment when seeing the email about it I thought it was a bad joke because it was the most unexpected news I could imagine especially with Damon's solo tour. And yes April does feel a long way away after hearing the new track. :)

Yeah great write up, they really are the soundtrack to my life, from my first venture into the pub back in 1991 and remember seeing the floppy hair lads on the video jukebox with "There's No Other Way" to really getting into them in 1993 with the "For Tomorrow" single and then "Modern Life Is Rubbish", then all the singles soundtracking holidays, break ups etc plus all the live adventures and more, who knows when it really will be the final chapter, I don't even think the lads know... ;)

A good read Mr Magpie!

I had just posted something similar in the main album thread about the impact this has had on me, so I can only say very well put!

Thanks guys! (and I'd seen that, daysleeper...well done :) ). It's really cool how they seem to have had similar effects on all of us in subtly different ways, of course. The main story stays the same.

I'm glad it's March tomorrow...even though we've still got 8 weeks to go, it seems a bit closer thinking March to April than it did February to April
