Ambulance

Post by tom_cas1 » 26 Feb 2015, 00:49

I thought that a song this great deserves it's own thread!

There was an amazing live version of Ambulance from 2003 that I always loved, but before today I couldn't for the life of me remember WHERE it had been played. But thanks to Blurcast (the video featured in a Blurcast promo video from 2005) I've found it!! (It was on Veikko's site!)

TV Show: Brand Spanking New
Channel: MTV
Place: MTV Studios, Camden, London, UK
Recorded: 6 March 2003
Broadcast: 28 March 2003

I'm sorry, but HOW is this not a great Blur song? Just imagine how it would sound with Graham weaving through Alex's bassline, adding those gorgeous guitar tones and textures. I'm getting wet just thinking about it...

Anyone else?!?

Yeah that's a good one! I think the version at La Bataclan in Paris is even better though. ;)

Ambulance has got some of the best percussion I've ever heard. Dave should give himself a pat on the back for that one. All the guitars and weird effects seem to wrap around it too, which is cool.

It is by far and large one of Blur's finest moments. I've always, always rated it. Plus it's such a fantastic album opener.

I LOVE ambulance, is at the very top of their best songs, Graham's absence forced them to shine in other ways, I think is one of Alex's finest moments

And I find the lyrics to be one of Damon's best, very honest, raw and sweet

+100 all of this. Wish they'd play it with Graham in the band. It's the strongest track on TT (maybe "Battery..." is as good) and one of the finest moments of their career, period.

I've always thought Out of Time was the best song on Think Tank. Ambulance is great though.

Yep, me too. I do think Ambulance is very, very good, but Out Of Time is incredible. Damon is dismissing TT at the moment because it maybe seems more consistent with his current positive feelings of having the band as four again. But it doesn't stop it being a legitimate album in my eyes. Songs like those two are up there with some of the best Blur tracks.

Well, I got into blur around 1994 when I was 8 or 9. The analogy I like to use is that it was like having a dog that you've loved dearly since you were a child. You play with it all the time etc. Then 9 years later, it gets run over and loses a limb. It's still a great dog, but whenever you play with it you get slightly depressed, because something's missing. :(

Always one of my favourites. Perfect. Live versions are amazing too.

Finally we seem to have found a song the entire forum agrees on... :P
