My 2 cents on Go Out is:

With the single exception of Battery in Your Leg (beautiful guitar line), this is the first song Blur have done for 16 years that sounds like Graham's has had any real input. As much as I liked:

Music Is my Radar
Black Book
Fool's Day
Under the Westway
and
The Puritan

He was fairly anonymous on all of them. But on Go Out he fucking OWNS. So has to be a 4/5 rating for me.

I agree with most of the sentiment there Spider but I have to disagree regarding Fools' Day - he owns that tune! Such a good guitar line

Nah, just an oldtyme Blur fan since 1992. I've been here and there on the Blur forums and this one, I just hadn't made a new account here since Veikko switched to a new forum, so I finally made one the other day! I used to be on the ol' Blur email list back in the day, 1993-95ish, too. Advert-L? Whatever it was called. Ha!

I've always been a huge fan of early, weird Blur before they really gelled. Seymour was a strange little group, all indebted to Cardiacs and The Who and Kurt Weill, etc.. Thrashing around with some passionate intent and loads of onstage sweat and blood. So having them head back into the weird (which they've done several times in their long career!) is just fine to my ears. :)

Also, I loved that show "Sledgehammer!" Nice one.
nice to see you!

I usually listen to BBC6 radio all the day at work and I haven't heard Go Out once, apart from the time when Stev Lamacq was interviewing the band.
Instead, they play a lot the Noel Gallagher's new song, for example: also in Italy this song gets played a lot, I think it's more commercial.
But I was expecting that a radio station like BBC6, more indie-oriented, was playing Go out more, but thinking about that, they also didn't played very much of Everyday Robots this year.
Let's see after 27 of april.

Is it because it's not an official single? I don't think that should stop them but it might be why.

I think it's a great song, I really like it. I gave it 4/5 after a couple of listens, if the rest of the album is like this then we are in for a treat.

I never really warmed to the Puritan, Westway etc, but this I love.

I don't think it matters too much anymore whether bands release songs officially as singles.

If enough people went on iTunes and bought the mp3 of "Lot 105", it would be the official UK number 1 single next week. :D

Well if they don't they get no airplay on the radio, thus the mainstream public dont even know Blur are back!

Well this is very true, fingers crossed Blur's PR team get on it. They've got two months to sort the marketing.

I gave it a 3/5. It's a good song and I really like it - certainly better than Fool's Day and Under the Westway - but I wouldn't call it on of their best singles.

Agreed. I'd also toss MIMR and Black Book out...his guitar is all over those tunes, not sure how he is invisible on those? Really on Westway and Puritan out of that bunch, and is it coincidence those are two of the weakest latter-day Blur tunes? I think not...

I still don't understand why there's so much hate on here for 'Under the Westway'.

Because it may aswell have been a Damon solo song, and the song thinks it has the emotion of This Is A Low or The Universal, it comes nowhere near...

*clap clap clap* Thank you. My thoughts exactly. The production is too mushy and muddy, as well (IMO). It's not as horrid as the Puritan, but it's nowhere near as good (again, IMO) as the two songs it's always compared to.
