Re: NEW ALBUM: The Magic Whip
I know precisely when I found out about it - when I logged in at work that lunch time, and posted here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1858&start=24, so I came to it a couple of hours late. Yeah, not much work happened for the rest of that day.

Re: NEW ALBUM: The Magic Whip
I was on the GBV forum when I noticed that the Blur thread had a new post. I thought "Oh, okay, Kirby's wigging out again and he's listening to Badhead on repeat now".
It was not that. It was a giant ice cream cone. I thought it was a compilation at first, but then I went to the band's website and LO AND BEHOLD my day was made.

I found out at lunch time too and barely ate with all the excitement. Needless to say that it was a glorious unproductive afternoon at work. I just read like the first 10 pages of this thread and it put a huge smile on my face. It still feels quite unbelievable (hell we were doubting it until they actually said new album
). Happy memories

Re: NEW ALBUM: The Magic Whip
Yeah, I can't believe it's already more than a year ago...
I remember that on the morning of the announcement, I exchanged mails with my best friend. I can't remember why but he was asking me if I was planning on going to London in 2015. And I replied "Nah. I'll only go back there for a Graham Coxon's gig. Of if Blur release a new album and go on tour, haha." I was completely dumbfounded a couple hours later, when I found out this was actually happening! And on March.20 I was in London for their secret gig. Crazy, really...

March 20th was the MODE show, wow. It doesn't seem like a year since that. What an experience. 2015 was truly fantastic in so many ways. Thank you Blur!

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
So... I wonder if 2018 will bring something good for blur fans, if the band seems to be creative every three years (2009 with the first reunion shows - 2012 with the single and another world tour - 2015 with The Magic Whip)

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
It would be great, but I wouldn't personally place a bet on it. It looks like there's a pattern to it, but there really isn't, as we know: 2009 happened because Damon and Graham had their chat the year before; 2012 only happened because it was the Olympics, don't think they'd have planned anything otherwise; and 2015 came about after the tapes had languished for AGES, thanks to Gra. No plan, just coincidence.Consigliere_11 wrote:So... Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
Incredible indeed. I remember going in to work late so I could go into my local HMV when they opened to buy my copy.

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip
1 year ago exactly? Wow. I got up early too to make sure I got the Y'all Doomed 7" although there appeared to be no rush because the HMV I went to in Cheltenham (which has since shut) wasn't packed at all and I was the only one queuing outside! Ahhh wonderful experience. I think I'll put the album on now.
