tom_cas1 wrote:Great question. I have to say that after the MODE show I wasn't yet taken with Ghost Ship and Ong Ong but they are probably my two favourite songs on the album now. Ice Cream Man stood out for me the most immediately after the show and I had it in my head for weeks. Still do!

My favourites from the MODE show (other than Ice Cream Man) were Spaceman and Pyongyang and even though I still love them on the album I think they sounded better live. Graham's guitar stood out more and he did a lot of things that aren't on the album. Better guitar tone for one, especially on Ice Cream Man. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the studio version of Ice Cream Man, it's one of my favourite songs from the album, but when they played it live I was just blown away by Graham's guitar. It was rougher, more in your face and intertwined beautifully with Alex's bass playing. Sublime! It's still there on the album but the studio tone is more subdued with not as much crunch or volume.
Sorry, hadn't seen your reply! I agree with you! I wouldn't have managed to explain my feelings as I suck when it comes to describe music (i can tell how I feel about it but can't explain why. I'm not a musician --well, can play a bit of piano and harmonica, but that's it-- so it doesn't help!) I love Ice cream man studio version but I like Mode version's better, I really liked its intro, and indeed, the way Alex and Gra played together. There are still TMW songs that I prefer live (the Mode versions) but I think it's got more to do with me being there at Mode. It's not the case with Ice Cream Man, it's really "objective".

But so your first impressions after the gig remained quite the same then. I mean, your favourites songs at Mode still are your favourites on the album. :)

it's a little bit bullshit. damon said that he can't sing so high. so what's about tial ? he's vocal on parklife is very strong and some parts are very high, but they still play it.

haha i have this one But without the "parental advisory"

Anyway i know i suck at piano so it doesn't help ("easy to play Blur", you bet! :x lol) but seriously, have they really tried to play Bank holiday on keyboard?!

The book was released after TGE but out of the 4 albums, whoever made that book ended up with piano arrangements for songs like Bank Holiday, Jubilee or Stereotypes! Surely, I would have sounded less pathetic trying to play End of a century, To the end, Blue jeans or Sing than Bank Holiday

Bank Holiday on a keyboard? Yea, maybe if you want to break it...

Just thinking of a piano version of EOAC, that would sound great if done right.

Damon did it last year!! In his solo tour for Everyday Robots, when I saw him in Italy, he played solo on the keyboards EOAC and Out of time.
I can say he did it quite well!! ;) :D
