Steven P Morrissey - new album out in November

Post by Neal Zeal » 22 Aug 2017, 15:56

Called 'Low in High School', apparently.
Bit of a clumsy title but better than 'World Peace'.
Funny, isn't it, how the announcement of a new Morrissey album is still exciting after all these years...

Ooh, just found out that Taylor Swift has a new album out in November too.
Shaping up to be a good month for pop music fans!

They should do a joint project, as per The Smiths & Sandie Shaw....

Well Taylor was actually playing a Johnny Marr signature guitar in her most recent shows so perhaps not quite as unfeasible as it sounds!

The title has been growing on me. I'm very excited for this album! Of course it could end up being a dud, but I like to be optimistic. Also, it's great that with 0 promotion for the new album other than its name at this point, Moz was able to sell out the Hollywood Bowl so quickly.

Oh, and I'm sure I'll Like Low in High-School better than Taylor's new album ;)

BMG's Korda Marshall says "In all my years working in music, it’s the strongest collection of songs that I’ve ever been involved with – I wouldn’t say that lightly."

This could of course be basic label talk, but he seems genuinely excited about the album and giving Moz the freedom of his own label (Etienne), so I'm going to allow myself to be hyped up for this album!

Yes, I'm getting a little hyped up too! I thought the last album was a real breath of fresh air, his best since the 90s.
He's kept the same team (including producer) so more in a similar vein would be fine with me.
They've just announced he's doing one of the 6 Music Festival dates in early October http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/article ... -live-2017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so we'll get to hear a new song or two in less than a month!

Yes yes. PLEASE be good. I want to love this song.

What did you all think of the apparent album cover? I think it looks absolutely hideous. I hope it isn't the final cover.

Also, Moz now has an official twitter (https://twitter.com/officialmoz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and an official wesbite (http://morrisseyofficial.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Yeah, the leaked album cover was awful. I'm really hoping that wasn't it, or they've had a re-think (like they did by removing the hyphen in the album title). The prospect of a new Morrissey song is still ridiculously exciting even after all this time. A few lyrics have been leaked and they don't sound great but not quite as clumsy as those to (the song) 'World Peace...' from last time. I've got high hopes for the music, at least, as lots of the musical compositions were great last time, and it's the same songwriting and production team. Worth reflecting that we're lucky he's still putting out new songs at this stage in the game. Plenty of other musical icons of his era have either retired or are sadly no longer alive.

The song was a very pleasant surprise. I liked it much more than expected! No chugging guitars, thank god. This has made me much more excited for the album...!

Here's a link to the song https://open.spotify.com/track/14Rb3dViHmaUpIrl83Q3fn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Curious to hear what others on this forum think.

The song titles and album cover of Moz's new album are pure parody.

Sadly, they're SELF-parody...

The cover of Low in High School will never not make me think of Foxbase Alpha

And I'll never not associate Spent the Day in Bed with coming out on my 20th birthday. Gooood song though.

I heard the new single and it sounds refreshingly different for Morrissey - but I am not really familiar with his work in the last decade or so.
