I just cannot believe this - I'm stunned. Just heard it and headed straight here. Tragic.

RIP.

I really don't have the emotional strength to talk about this much more, so I'll just post my current Facebook status.

Rest in Peace David Robert Jones, better known as David Bowie.

You were one of the biggest inspirations I ever had, growing older. You did exactly what you thought was right, no matter what anybody else said. Whenever I was asked if I had any role models, I would say "Yeah, David Bowie."

You made some of the best music ever, from glam, to jazz to weird krautrock stuff. Whenever I'm sad, I still listen to songs like Life on Mars, Warszawa and Rock n' Roll Suicide, and I still rock out to Suffragette City and Rebel Rebel.

I really wish I had the words to explain exactly how much this hurts.

Goodbye Ziggy ❤

Someone tweeted about black star "Good lord. He was saying goodbye and we never knew it." So sad.

Horrible news.

I listened to the album once over the weekend and was always planning to give it a second listen today.

Some of the lyrics, with this context, it's obvious what he's trying to say. It's a very upsetting experience.

Glad I listened to it yesterday, detached from the context because it's an amazing album. At the minute it's just hard to listen to.

RIP - creative genius to the very end

Exactly my thoughts.

It's one of those days where the world simply carrying on feels like an affront to decency, such is the sadness of the news. It's probably my imagination, but I could swear coming into work this morning the looks on some people's faces betrayed their thoughts.

So many of the lyrics from the album have become very poignant. Heck, Lazarus starts with "look at me I'm in heaven". Even "where..did Monday go?"

I'm having a complete Bowie binge. It's all very overwhelming though.

I remember being struck yesterday by that song Dollar Days "I'm trying to... I'm dying to..." (too?)

:( I was watching BBC News and there was a guest talking about Bowie making subtle references to his health on The Next Day in particular. If that's the case then it seems amplified on Blackstar.

Edit: Tony Visconti said he knew "it would be this way" whilst Blackstar, which I guess sorta confirms it.

Yeah, it seems that he knew that Blackstar was going to be his swan song. What a way to go. As Visconti's said, he's made art even out of death.
