Gomez Thread
Who else is a Gomez fan? I've loved them since I first saw the "Bring It On" video on MTV way back in '99 and then I discovered more of "Liquid Skin" and then immediately immersed myself into the "Bring It On" album..."In Our Gun" was a very experimental album and "Split the Difference" was sensational, but didn't rank with their first two albums.... I haven't been nearly impressed with their most recent releases, but to me they are still vastly underrated.. They're the only band I've seen live more than once (but haven't since '05).......
It seems they (especially Ian and Ben) have splintered off to do more solo material, but I hope they tour again together soon!

Already "Bring It On" 20th anniversary and they're back on tour celebrating it and even sound better than ever!
Here's just one mere sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RitiJF3jrQE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I liked some of their singles. Their emergence coincided with the indie-downturn of the late 90s which probably didn't help them.

But they became electronic sounding in 2000 with their EP, "Machismo" and then every experimental with their 2002 release, "In Our Gun"..... "Split the Difference" in 2004 is another classic, but since they've become rather commercial sounding for the most part and haven't released new material since 2011....
3 members of their have since released solo material, but nothing all too earth shattering.....
They are very eclectic and also have the best B-Sides outside of Blur!

I never got into them Louie - I am not sure why. I think I have one of their albums, but didn't play it much.

Re: Gomez Thread
You should definitely check-out their first four albums and their 2000 EP "Machismo"..... Also, it's best to see them live or any of their live youtube videos... It's worth the effort indeed!Mallard No. 22 wrote:I never got into them Louie - I am not sure why. I think I have one of their albums, but didn't play it much.

Really liked their debut. They're playing Oxford next month. Will have to check them out!

Re: Gomez Thread
First, if I remember correctly there is a regular poster on this board who claims to have known singer/lead-guitarist, Ben Otewell when he was younger and really didn't have the kindness words regarding him....
Anyways, I fell in love with Gomez in 1999 when I first saw their "Bring It On" video on MTV here in the States....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2vJBaq6zlE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Incidentally, "Bring It On" is the title of their 1998 recording debut, but the song containing the same title was on their 1999 follow-up, "Liquid Skin".....
I saw them twice here in AZ (circa '04/'05) and in relatively small intimate settings and they were VERY impressive! Their first four albums are worth the listens.... Again, I feel they've since become too commercial sounding and they haven't released any material since 2011, except two of the members, Ian Ball and the aforementioned Ben have done solo albums/tour and Tom Gray has started working on some material of his own.
I again can go on and on and on about them! I hope they finally do something new soon...it is WAY LONG overdue!

Re: Gomez Thread
Gomez has officially released their 20th anniversary edition of their 2nd album, "Liquid Skin" and here are 2 wonderful unreleased demos:

To me they have the 2nd best B-Sides and unreleased material only to Blur and the Beach Boys (who are tied to me for 1st)!

Re: Gomez Thread
Got tickets for me and Mum to go see them in December. They're one of mums favourites, but I haven't really dug into their discography too much - any recommendations on where I can start?

Re: Gomez Thread
Actually their first 4 albums in order... "Bring It On", "Liquid Skin", "In Our Gun", and then "Split the Difference"...... Also, their B-Sides rival Blur....
They're actually a better band live. I've seen them twice, but haven't since 2005 and they're just incredible!
