Re: The Beatles Thread
Not trying to be a "snob", but I hope we can merge this thread viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3242" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; w/this one. Would make the discussion regarding "Egypt Station" a lot smoother.
Anyways, the album isn't my cup of tea. I know he's trying to document his entire music career throughout the album, but he fails quite a bit. It just seems all forced to me which has been the case regarding Paul's recent efforts. He needs someone to keep him in check. Several of us would love for him to collaborate with Elvis Costello or even Jeff Lynne again. He seemed rather over indulged on most tracks and "Fuh You" would never become reality with someone providing him with even the slightest objectivity. Plus, Giles Martin also must produce him again...Giles is 2nd best to only his dad in capturing Paul's true sound to its fullest....

Re: Paul McCartney's new album, Egypt Station - anyone tempt
I've yet to listen to it. I have an MP3 copy waiting for me to download that came with concert tickets I bought. Eager to give it a listen... but even more eager for my first time seeing Macca live! So glad he's still around, making music, and seemingly in great shape.

Re: The Beatles Thread
Thanks. I asked another friend of mine who is also a die-hard Beatles/Paul fan and he too was disappointed with "Egypt Station". I honestly hope it's not his final album, but he again better have a collaborator if he indeed does decide to record again.tom_cas1 wrote:I merged the two topics.

This is rather cool. Paul breaking down some of his iconic songs. https://youtu.be/u97_inloBmY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Very cool Mark. I still swear I heard that Jet was the name of his black lab and not a pony, but I don't have the proof. I wish they picked more obscure songs, but then again it wouldn't be his most iconic songs. Random thought, loved the dog in the middle of the video.
Onto another Paul subject, can someone please tell him that no one wants to hear about him wanking off with John? I mean this guy has such cool stories and lived such a great life and some of the private things he lets people in on should sometimes be left private. Maybe that's just me. I remember reading the story in Many Years From Now when the book came out and I thought "Why does he feel that I need to know this?" Maybe I'm just a prude though...

Re: The Beatles Thread
Yeah...that has been the overwhelming consensus among my friends as well! I hope it isn't Paul's "last hurrah".... But again I reiterated he needs someone to keep him in check if he indeed decides to record another album. He can make up for all of this by finally releasing "Carnival of Light"!Mallard No. 22 wrote:I haven't heard the new Paul album, but a friend of mine has and he isn't too keen

Paul’s album is number 1 in the USA. It’s his first number 1 in 36 years.
Re: The Beatles Thread
Wow - impressive stuff. It's #3 here in the UK on sales of about 15,000.MsMagicAmerica wrote:Paul’s album is number 1 in the USA. It’s his first number 1 in 36 years.
Not bad at all - thought it would have done better tho as lots of good reviews but it lacked a big radio hit.
The 3 songs I've heard just didn't seem to have the requisite big catchy chorus.

Re: The Beatles Thread
I believe it made it #1 due to Paul's name recognition. Something must be #1 and by default since the music industry has been at an all-time low in over a decade!
