So yeah Noel won. Fairly unsurprisingly really.

I quite some of that Slaves album. Cheer up London, Sockets and Like an Animal = great punk/noisy indie tunes.
Singing is ropey as fuck though

Re: general blur thread
And they've never even nominated a heavy metal band. Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting cannibal corpse or Motley Crue to get one but bands like mastodon and opeth should have. Opeth'a last album was a classic

Re: general blur thread
I see that The Magic Whip wasn't even nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Whatever. Bullshit, musical elitist award.
Blur have been nominated twice already and I think Damon asked for the Gorillaz to not be nominated in 2001 so fuck it off

Re: Gorillaz - Phase 4?
Thing is, if that was the only rubbish song he'd done at that time, I'd forgive him but you also need to add:
Mull of Kintyre
With a Little Luck
Pipes of Piece
Mary Had a Little Lamb
No More Lonely Nights
Ebony and Ivory
Silly Love Songs
Wonderful Christmas Time
AND THEY'RE ALL AWFUL

Careful, we all remember what happened the last time Paul McCartney's music ended up in a cartoon:JordanPowers wrote: According to this interview, Damon and Paul talked about doing something together with Gorillaz once.

Re: The Magic Whip Commercial Expectations
A gold disc literally 5 months to the day that it was released. That's not bad.
Clearly when it gets award nominations that'll boost its sales further.

Re: 20 years of The Great Escape
I've often wondered how/if Blur's later albums would have come about if The Great Escape had met commercial expectations.
It was supposed to be the record that took them to the level of Led Zeppelin fame worldwide and it didn't quite happen.

Re: Alex James appreciation
As far as I'm concerned, the bass line to Girls & Boys is the closest anyone's ever got to "Good Times" by Chic.

Ah yes, good point. Bloody hell you could almost do a whole album of Blur's "lost" songs couldn't you?

Re: Songs that should have been Singles
For Leisure, I'd put I Know on the album and put it out as a single instead of Bang. For MLIR, I'd have put Coping out instead of Sunday Sunday. The band probably agree with me. For Parklife- This is a Low instead of End of a Century. For TGE, It Could Be You instead of Charmless Man For 13, a 3 mi...

Re: Alex James appreciation
OK quick question,
Can anyone name a British bass player from the 90s who's as well renowned/as good as him?
No I can't either.

Re: general blur thread
Maybe this question was asked before, but this one is for people who actually listened to blur as they were making records in the 90's. What was your reaction to the self-titled record when it came out? I mean, this was quite a big shift in both sound and lyrics, and this might have changed the opi...

Re: The Magic Whip: 4 Months On
I love TMW. 8/10 I'd definitely put it above Leisure and Think Tank and on a par with TGE. But it's definitely not in the same league as MLIR, Parklife, 13 or self titled, all of which are 9/10. My only criticism (and that's too strong a word) is that with the exceptions of Lonesome Street and Ong O...

Re: general blur thread
So would anyone like to guess what massive event in Blur's history kicked off, literarlly 20 years ago to the day? I'll give you a subtle clue: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Blur-Country-House-54546.jpg I have mixed but mainly positively nostalgic feelings about the...
