Re: R.E.M. Thread
^I think you've nailed it there. R.E.M. just seem to be a classy band, whether it be bowing out gracefully or none of the band members being too pretentious (a la Morrissey) or at least maintaining a sense of humour. What I really respect about them is how they managed to be political without being ...

Re: R.E.M. Thread
I'm not sure I agree with 'Collapse Into Now' being described as a 'whimper'; okay it's not their best but I quite like the way it covers most of their styles, whether it be mandolin ballads or more straight rockers. A nice full stop on the career.

New Order is so much more than Blue Monday though. Temptation, Age of Consent and The Perfect Kiss are just three tracks off the top of my head that I think are better.

Re: Joy Division
Yeah I think that when you listen to stuff like Love Will Tear Us Apart and Heart & Soul, it becomes apparent that they probably would have moved into the more dance-orientated direction even if Curtis hadn't died.
On a side note, picked up Bernard's new book earlier, very excited to read it.

Re: Joy Division
^why don't you like New Order? I think that Joy Division are probably the 'better' band, but I listen to New Order far more often. Like Pasta said, I don't really think they should be regarded as separate.

Re: Joy Division
Yeah, pretty much a perfect band. What I love about them is that given they followed the tradition of not releasing singles from albums, you have to look a bit further for the really, really good stuff: Dead Souls as the best JD song anyone?

Re: Ranking albums
Taste is subjective and all, but I'm really struggling to see how you can list a four-song EP that is pretty standard punk rock over an album that even if you don't personally care for, was pretty darn original and bold.TripleJay97 wrote:Joy Division
