Re: general blur thread

Il Communication isn't even the best Beastie Boys album released in the 90s, let alone one of the best overall. Mine would be (only one album per artist allowed) in order: 1.Blur- Modern Life is Rubbish 2.Radiohead- The Bends 3.Judas Priest- Painkiller 4.The Prodigy- Music for the Jilted Generation ...

Re: Gig: New York City, 23 Oct

Well they didn't sell out a big gig on their own turf (London) this year but like a few people have already said, sometimes it's definitely nicer to have more space. Hyde Park was definitely more enjoyable for my wife and I this summer cos we had space to move. Bowie's just confirmed the release dat...

Re: Gig: New York City, 23 Oct

So glad that everyone who went to the NYC and LA gigs had a great time. In 2012 I'd waited 13 years to see Blur again (with Graham). But for you guys it was even longer. Or for some it was the first time.

This is how I'll feel if I ever get to see Bowie live.

Which I won't. :(

Re: general blur thread

I quite some of that Slaves album. Cheer up London, Sockets and Like an Animal = great punk/noisy indie tunes.

Singing is ropey as fuck though

Re: general blur thread

And they've never even nominated a heavy metal band. Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting cannibal corpse or Motley Crue to get one but bands like mastodon and opeth should have. Opeth'a last album was a classic

Re: general blur thread

I see that The Magic Whip wasn't even nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Whatever. Bullshit, musical elitist award.

Blur have been nominated twice already and I think Damon asked for the Gorillaz to not be nominated in 2001 so fuck it off

Re: Gorillaz - Phase 4?

Thing is, if that was the only rubbish song he'd done at that time, I'd forgive him but you also need to add:

Mull of Kintyre
With a Little Luck
Pipes of Piece
Mary Had a Little Lamb
No More Lonely Nights
Ebony and Ivory
Silly Love Songs
Wonderful Christmas Time

AND THEY'RE ALL AWFUL

Careful, we all remember what happened the last time Paul McCartney's music ended up in a cartoon:

Re: The Magic Whip Commercial Expectations

A gold disc literally 5 months to the day that it was released. That's not bad.

Clearly when it gets award nominations that'll boost its sales further.

Re: 20 years of The Great Escape

I've often wondered how/if Blur's later albums would have come about if The Great Escape had met commercial expectations.

It was supposed to be the record that took them to the level of Led Zeppelin fame worldwide and it didn't quite happen.
