Re: Graham gig

does solo = one man show though :) the UK gig seems to be one man, but not sure about the others? I saw his last solo show at the Roundhouse - but he had a band... To be utterly honest i was being entirely self-centred and not really considering the NA shows. I saw the Spinning Top and several show...

Re: Graham gig

Got to admit i'm surprised it's his only UK gig of the year, glad i got my ticket before it sold out https://www.nme.com/news/music/graham-coxon-announces-only-live-uk-date-2358307 Think i've seen him solo at least 6 times - Don't know that I've ever seen him play as a one man show before though - j...

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

It's in at number 4 in the Global Album Chart. 129,000 sales in the first week. Not sure how that compares to Magic Whip or Humanz but guessing quite favourably... http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums.htm Not so much - TMW #3 http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums-week20-2015.htm Humanz #1 http://www.media...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

Whilst I don't disagree with any of the above, it's the cost side of the finances which doesnt make sense, rather than sales. Blur will sell more gig tickets In the UK certainly, but US would be a firm no, and I'd guess unless it was a guaranteed greatest hits Blur tour then a Gorillaz one will do ...

Graham's solo tour 2018-2019

Surprised this hasn't been picked up on here yet, but on Monday a new Graham Coxon gig was announced, Martin, he of Blur Fan Club fame, was instrumental (no pun intended) in putting this together. Given there are no planned releases or other gigs that I am aware of this could be a really interesting...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

To put this into commercial perspective, the world wide sales of Humanz are around double what they are of the Magic Whip, and given the deluxe editions there was likely even more profit generated. And Humanz, according to ifpi was actually the 23rd best selling album of 2017 worldwide. But this ye...

Re: Likelihood of another Blur record

Just a hunch, but I'm not really sure Gorillaz is commercially viable any more as far as record labels are concerned. Seems to me as though the budget is getting smaller, album sales certainly are and I'd suggest "the old school ipod cartoons" will pull in the young un's about as much as the chance ...

Forever Low Man wrote:i dont like kanye either but bold of damon to say "sampling sucks" when the first 2 gorillaz albums (especially the debut) were driven by samples
Not to mention De La's (whom he rightly adores) love of a sample

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

You can't beat that melody, that chorus and those fantastic rap verses. For me it's the true definition of a masterpiece. Indeed, fantastic song no matter how you look at it. My memory though, was that the remix was what got the radio play. Same with 19-2000 - the remix was the things everybody kne...

The Resigned Test

After listening to TNN through for the first time, I sort of half-formed (by which I mean I'm inviting anyone to make this slightly more eloquent or otherwise improved) 'The Resigned Test'. Simply put, which albums would potentially feature Resigned as a highlight, which more-or-less sums up how I f...

Re: Marks out of 10 for Now Now

Should for context say that I'm marking these based on Damon's previous work as a benchmark, rather than against music as a whole (which would give higher scores) TNN - 6.25 a little bereft of either variety of ideas or full development. Feels like the album The Fall could have been. Which in Gorill...

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

I guess Gorillaz are not mainstream anymore. But it's to be expected given the lack of hits. Clint Eastwood, Feel Good Inc. and DARE elevated the first two albums in terms of radio play. Better singles, better albums, better promotion and fresher ideas. Not rocket science to explain that away. EDIT...

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

I'll be the first to say it then. Was pretty meh to me. A solid 6/10 - not terrible, but felt one paced and not dynamic enough to really sustain my attention. For me it's Everyday Robots part 2. There aren't any "bad" tracks per se, just as an album it doesn't really go anywhere and I don't think an...

Re: GORILLAZ: The Now Now Album Thread

Am I alone in not being blown away by anything heard so far? Probably fair to disclose that I wasn't too enamoured with the Humans pre-releases on the whole either and still liked the album, so my view may change. That said I feel like I would pretty much rank the Gorillaz album chronologically in t...
