How did Parklife come to be?

Just wondering if anyone had any knowledge on how Parklife the song was written? Did Damon ever go into it in any interviews at all or anything? Other important songs in the Blur story have been discussed by the band, for example, the fact For Tomorrow was written on a piano at Damon's folk's over C...

Re: Symbols on the Cover Art of Colours

Never seen this before, cool! Seems almost like a mood chart they made for the songs early on in the sessions. I think 'Chicken & Fries' is probably what became 'Don't be'. Given the song starts with Damon repeatedly saying "chicken and, chicken and, chicken and friieess". Not read the particular in...

Re: Return of Vampire Weekend, June 2018

... Hmmm, wasn't too impressed with Harmony Hall. Terribly bland for them and sounds like a watered down re-hash of lyrics from MVOTC. Preferred 2021. Not a brilliant start for me, but still 16 tracks to go and there's certainly a few songs on each album I could survive without...

Re: Return of Vampire Weekend, June 2018

I think Rostam has just as much input on this as he did on previous records. Ezra said recently they both had a conversation at his house about it one day and they both decided that Rostam being a fully fledged member of the band wasn't necessary to his collaboration and input in Vampire Weekend. I ...

Re: Return of Vampire Weekend, June 2018

Ezra announced on Instagram that they are releasing a double album in a few months time, with 2 tracks released each month leading up to it(starting from next week!). Now all that's left to do is pray that it isn't a disappointment... The wait has been long, but so far Ezra and co have been pretty f...

Re: blur official answering questions on answer.sh

Irrespective of the moderate social media presence bulding in recent months from management, I have a strong suspicion the boys may secretly record an album over spring/summer with a release late this year/early 2020. TGTBTQ are doing a very mild tour of a few gigs each month throughout summer and a...

Re: B-Sides

It's like they hadn't really discovered what kind of band they were.. I mean 'baggy' tunes on a Blur album!? They didn't have enough clout to not be told what to do by the label so it's just a bit of an identity crises album really. The lyrics other than Sing are just so empty. Even There's no other...

Re: B-Sides

For some reason I just totally disregard the whole Leisure era of the band.. It just doesn't even feel like Blur save for 'Sing'. Popscene onwards is where my listening starts. I know it's an irrational prejudice to have, but I just can't commit to it! Haven't listened to Leisure from start to finis...

Very impressive. As I've said, anything above 6.5 from Pitchfork is very good.

Re: B-Sides

Now that you say it, The Outsider would have been worthy of being on Think Tank. Brilliant song, reminds me of early MIA. Very eclectic. Think Tank B sides probably on par with S/T.. I dunno why I just find TGE era a great time. Could tell they wanted to take the plunge into more free-form, experime...

Re: B-Sides

TGE wins. Tame and TMWLH really lay the groundwork for the following 2 albums. No monsters in me is class too. Modern Life is Rubbish is a close second for me though as far as B sides go. Parklife's are awful, S/T are strong, but I can't even recall any proper songs in the 13 lot other than So You....

Re: New Dave interview

Thanks for sharing. Thoroughly enjoyed that. It's funny, Dave was always the most reserved Blur member when they were properly active in the 90s and early 00s with regard to doing press and interviews, but he actually gives the most insight into how the band operates and is very open and candid. Dam...
