Re: The Great Escape = the code for life

Entertain Me is legitimately my favourite song on the album. Some of Alex's best bass playing on this song.

Re: The Great Escape = the code for life

Like all the best Blur albums, TGE has 5 or 6 really great songs on it. However, unlike all the best Blur albums it's got 4 or 5 really awful ones, too! Which ones are the awful ones? I can only think of two that might qualify, Mr. Robinson's Quango and Ernold Same (and even that I'm on the fence a...

Re: Alex James' "The Big Feastival" - has anybody attended?

Holy shit, he looks fucking terrible. Looks like he's had a bit of plastic surgery done. You gotta hand it to Damon, and even guys like Thom Yorke and the Gallaghers: they're all in pretty good nick for blokes in their 50s. They aren't Brad Pitt, but who is? They're all pretty thin and know how to ...

Re: Blur and Record Store Day

I hope I don't upset anyone but yes it definitely feels like 'the best of' was pretty much the end of an era. It was the start of 2000 and blur pretty much completed the 90s, Gorillaz obviously happened shortly after. So yeah we would have liked to include think tank and the magic whip but that's 2...

Re: Blur and Record Store Day

I put it down to successful careers, in music or outside of it. They are not as reliant as other Britpop bands to remind people of who they are. Plus Blur still pull in a decent amount of money via streaming while other artists are more in need to advertise their material. To put this into perspecti...

...which is more than can be said for the mooted NFT which seems to have attracted shedloads of environmental opprobrium  and rightly too! No, I disagree with the twitter kids trying to cancel Gorillaz over this. Demanding that their management team be sacked over this deal that they have gr...

Re: How To Dress like Damon Albarn

90's and early 00's Damon was okay, but he does not stand a chance next to the binman chic Damon brought to the world in the last decade or so.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I don't have a problem with Stylo but it doesn't really sound like a hit to me, irrespective of how well or not it was marketed. I'd no way place it in the same league as mega hits Clint Eastwood and Feel Good Inc which to my ears have ultra-wide appeal. To be clear, I did not claim with marketing ...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I can't find the data for Tender, apart from that it was in the top 10 for 4 weeks, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was amongst the biggest selling UK singles of 1999. It hung around the Top 40 for months. Tender was huge. It just had the bad misfortune to be released the same week as Britney's d...

Re: Girls and Boys reaches 100 million milestone on Spotify

Ghost Ship could be a Gorillaz song and by virtue of that alone has a more contemporaneous sound and potentially wider reach than most of Blur's back catalogue. I got shot down for saying that last year  I'm somewhat in the camp of people who shot you down. For me there are several Blur songs...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I used to be a very firm believer that art could be judged objectively and that one could say with conviction that one work is better than another. I remember being in Aesthetics classes at University and making that point dogmatically to a bunch of philosophy students and mavelling at their contra...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I agree about the run of Blur albums, but the first two Gorillaz albums and 'Happiness In Magazines' by Graham were also very good. I'd say the first 3 are all 5 star (Plastic Beach seems to have aged much better than the first album in the eyes of critics), as is the first the Good the Bad the Que...

Re: Girls and Boys reaches 100 million milestone on Spotify

Still, I would have expected the Universal to be higher, pre-2012 or not. If anything that is a song that has really grown in stature over the decades. I'm also surprised that Beetlebum isn't higher. Both are now on 27.7 million. They are fantastic amounts for songs from the 90's that did not break...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

What a waste of the Albarn/Coxon genius we have lost for so many years, Damon would rather be with his gange suppliers. The irony of this statement is that Damon likely did far more drugs and socialized far more with 'suppliers' while he was a member of Blur than he has in the 21st century. The 91/...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Are we even sure Gorillaz will start Season 2 in the situation where another festival season is highly uncertain due to covid? Glastonbury was already cancelled. Is there a will in the Gorillaz camp to pursue another season of releasing youtube singles with finale of an online gig? My guess is they...
