Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

Except those songs don't sound very alike?? The album as a whole has a pretty different feel to earlier records, I would just like it more if it fully embraced that, without feeling the need to put a punky one here and a singalong there. Popscene is way better than I Broadcast.... But I Broadcast d...

Re: Streety & Graham XFM track by track guide

That was great, thanks! Feeling rather smug as I had said Mirrorball had a real Link Wray thing going on and Graham just confirmed he was going for that feeling!

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

Fair enough, you'd prefer a more cohesive sound throughout. I personally prefer the album to change pace and moods. But anyway... I don't know why you seem to view Ong Ong or I Broadcast as a sop to idiot fans. Songs of that nature have always been part of their DNA. Why would they abandon them now...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

I Broadcast is awesome and is EXACTLY what the album needs... Pandering to fans who want Popscene over and over... What an idiotic thing to say...I could list a load of slow songs and say that New World Towers and My Terracotta Heart are pandering to "Best Days" fans :o Except those songs don't sou...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

The only song that doesn't really fit on the album is My Terracotta Heart, mainly because it's the weakest. I do like it but compared to the other songs it's in a much lower league. Y'all Doomed would have been good in it's place, just remove My Terracotta Heart and have Y'all Doomed after Mirrorba...

I think the casual listener who dismisses blur as kiddie music will only have his/her opinions reinforced by either of those two. Ghost Ship for my money.

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

Ong Ong (for me anyway) is one of the best things on the album. 10/10 song. Agreed. Can't decide if we're in the minority or not on this :| I think we could be. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Upbeat, catchy, happy song. Just wonderful! I do like the song, though I really didn't at first...

Re: Best Album Opener?

Poor old Lonesome Street... It's funny really, cos Lonesome Street is definitely their cleverest album opener, in terms of it being the smartest decision to put it first and everything it represents. It's a little stroke of genius to be able to come up with that song in the first place, that is so ...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

Of course he can have an opinion, or two, but that doesn't make him qualified to review an album like TMW for such a major publication. Let's try and be coherent here. And I haven't personally read any positive reviews which claimed Ong Ong to be the album's highlight, so I can't say anything in th...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

No one is saying it's the last word, revise all opinions based on this review! It's one blokes opinion, take it or leave it. I don't believe there is some hidden agenda, he gave it a 7, which although I don't agree with a word he wrote is probably how I would rate it if pushed.

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

It's a 7 because, why exactly? I personally give it a 9, but that's maybe part of the fanboy in me being too ecstatic, although I do really think it's a brilliant record. But from a purely critique's point of view, 7 is simply too low. It implies the album is above average, and by no means TMW is j...

Re: The Magic Whip Reviews

I've decided actually the thing which disgusts me the most is that they use the term 'adult contemporary' when referring to MTH and Mirrorball. Adult contemporary? I seriously hate that term, its like shitting on the music from a high storey window, because its just radio soft rock. If Mirrorball i...
