Re: Who here is from the old Blur forums?

I'm so old I can barely remember the old forum, but yes. Before that I think I was using some kind of Blur yahoo mailing list group?? Anyone remember that?

Re: How To Dress like Damon Albarn

I like Damon's look best in the gap between Leisure and Modern Life - sort of Popscene era. A nice shift from baggy chic to a loose, slightly bohemian style with the DMs, unbranded t-shirts, open necked shirts and beads. Lovely look. Once he started adding the mod revival Carnaby St affectations (ho...

Reaction videos

I don't know if anyone else is kind of addicted to watching reaction videos on youtube, but if you're not familiar with them, and have engaged a litle with discussion on other threads about the volume of youtube views that Blurgh and The Gorillas have accrued, you might find them quite interesting. ...

Re: Girls and Boys reaches 100 million milestone on Spotify

I think the comparison with Radiohead is a bit misleading - Blur have always been a band who were intensely interested in competition, in standing out, in reflecting the time and in demonstrating their influences, whereas Radiohead have always been a (creditably) inward-looking band. Blur could in t...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I used to be a very firm believer that art could be judged objectively and that one could say with conviction that one work is better than another. I remember being in Aesthetics classes at University and making that point dogmatically to a bunch of philosophy students and mavelling at their contrar...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

It's a shame but I have to agree that it doesn't feel like an album to me (and that's consistent with what they originally intended, I guess).

I find myself in the odd position of thinking that Song Machine has better songs than Humanz, but the latter is the better album. Don't ask me to explain!

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I don't think Pitchfork, The Quietus or Stereogum even bothered reviewing it, did they? Presumably their albums of the year are constructed from stuff they've reviewed.

Re: blur|banksy...

I went through a bit of a hording in 2003 and bought everything blur, but for some reason I never went for the think tank album and single vinyl's and they appear to be the ones that are worth the most. I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles I'm in the process of filling out my record coll...

Wouldn't consider buying any other format; certainly not mp3s!

Or, alternatively, he's doing whatever he likes, and that's cool.

Re: Gorillaz dream Collaborations

Great question. Off the top of my head:

- Patti Smith
- Tom Waits
- Donald Fagan (from Steely Dan)
- Bobby Gillespie
- Killer Mike (of Run The Jewels)
- David Byrne
- YG
- Shane McGowan
- Elvis Costello
- Tyler the Creator
- Kanye West
- Neil Young
- John Lydon

Re: Super State by Graham Coxon?

Just saw that, looks good. Graham is wonderful. Interesting to see one of the key musicians in Blur having such an original idea, meanwhile. A vaguely dystopian, fantastical excursion into high-concept pop, accompanied by comic-book visuals. Where've I heard that before... Looking forward to Dave's ...
