Re: B-Roads

I think it’s the fact that a portion of Blur fans on here have seen it. That’s why the rest of us feel a bit hard done by. And given the fact they have seen it, it makes little sense why a few more of us can’t. If it had never been seen by anyone out with the the filmmakers, the band and their imme...

Re: The "I Make Music" thread

Me and my pal Pete made a record over the course of the last few months; it just went live on Spotify today.

Re: B-Roads

I don't get it. If the band don't like it and are keen to suppress it, why on earth should someone leak it? We don't have a moral right to access anything Blur do, regardless of their feelings - better that it stays unwatched until such time as (you never know) they authorise a re-edit and make a fi...

Re: Letters from an old friend

It was intended as a metaphor for Damon's workrate and relationship with his fans, so this isn't really off-topic, but never mind.

Letters from an old friend

When I was a young teenager, I was absolutely obsessed with music. Luckily, I had lots of pals who felt the same. We formed a kind of community - eagerly turning each other on to new sounds, sharing our enthusiasm for song. As the years went by, as is often the way, our tastes divulged a bit, our ha...

Re: Damon and the Paddington movies soundtracks

Small reminder that pretty much everything released on Honest Jons is brilliant. The calypso compilations are just the tip of the iceberg.

Re: All We Want in 13.

Studio sessions. How many songs that were released on Blur albums and/or singles recorded in The States.

[edit: I think the answer is three; The Man Who Left Himself, St Louis & Tame; but I might be wrong. Possibly 'A Song' too?].

Re: All We Want in 13.

I think a lot depends on how the album cycle works too - they recorded Parklife and Great Escape so close together that I doubt they had much time to invest in writing b-sides along the way; but it's clear that the long touring cycle of TGE yielded songs like 'St Louis' and 'Tame' which would never ...

Re: Blur remasters

The remastering thing is weird - for me, Leisure would be one of Blur's very best LPs if it wasn't for the one glaring problem with it - the three or four different producers and their wildly different approaches make for a really disjointed sounding album. If you were going to remaster Leisure with...

Re: Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows

I'm guessing that now that these tour dates / performances will have to be cancelled, it'll be a while before we hear this; presumably they'll hold off any release until Damon can perform the show, which obvs won't be for a while.

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Yet Think Tank is a fantastic album. That's a matter of opinion. The Graham influence is clearly missing and it suffers for it. Graham would not let a song like Jets be on an album. Out of interest, what makes you think that? I mean, Graham has a long interest in free jazz and plays the sax. It's o...

But there is no Sing. There is no Sing so it can't be right.

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

I didn't buy 13 when it came out - I loved Tender but I was seriously underwhelmed by a lot of the rest of it; I remember listening to it excitedly on a listening post in HMV in Brighton and just thinking it was pretentious soupy nonsense - those early songs (Bugman, Swamp Song, 1992, BLUREMI) just ...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

My memory is that the backlash to TGE is largely a fiction. When that record came out it reviewed exceptionally well and I don't really recall people turning their backs on Blur. It was just that a bit of time passed and other records came out that people turned their attention to. I might be misrem...

Re: New track from Gorillaz to premiere on BBC Radio 1 this Thursday

Ah, I enjoyed that. Not heard of Slaves previously but that was a nice track - strong shades of Fun Boy Three, which is how it should be. Jolly good!
