Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Any chance you've worked out Yuko And Hiro 's flangey sound? Combination of vibrato + flanger? Possibly delay on top of that? (Just guessing...) Just listened to the album version of this song and you are right, there is a flanger on there too in addition to the vb-2. The piano lines have delay on ...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Can you record the whole track? I quite fancy working the electric guitar parts out and trying to add them to it!

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Alright, here's a bit of fun. I spent far too long today chasing the Look Inside America acoustic tone. Here is as close as I got (working on HD600 headphones): https://www.dropbox.com/s/7x25xicxpnez2m8/LookInsideAmericaToneExperiment.wav?dl=0 Now for the geeky bits. The guitar is the new Sigma cop...

Yuko and Hiro answer is here:

End of a Century is PN-2 tremolo on saw setting depth about 2 or 3 o’clock.

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Thanks so much for all this information. :o Recently bought a BF-2 and need to play with it a bit more but pretty sure I've worked out Girls and Boys, Popscene and Chemical World settings (which is definitely a flanger by the way and not the VB-2). I can put these up if anyone is interested? Yep, I...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Right ho, I've covered electric guitars and amps earlier in this thread. Now onto pedals.... There are several 'eras' of Graham's pedals which were broadly: 1) Leisure - no idea what he used around this time really but I think he's always had a RAT 2 as his main distortion sound 2) Modern Life is Ru...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Apologies for the piecemeal info but getting ten minutes to myself in house with a four year old during lockdown is pretty much impossible  Going back to amp settings, it's always a pain to work out what pro-guitarist's Marshall amp setting are because the knobs are circular and have a pretty ...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

I think Stephen Street used the old trick of recording two acoustic tracks and panning then hard left and right to give that stereo spread. That's indeed what's done on For Tomorrow , and can clearly be heard on the acoustic version that was published as a B-side. I recently bought a DD Boss pedal,...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Yeh, I think the acoustic sounds on songs like For Tomorrow, Starshaped, End of a Century always sounded so lush and really contributed to the sound. Graham was a really fantastic rhythm guitarist as well as lead guitarist! I think Stephen Street used the old trick of recording two acoustic tracks a...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Apologies to baxter as I didn't mean to hijack this thread. I am interested in knowing what acoustics Graham used on Blur recordings too so if anyone knows that would be great. Re: Amps and pedals, he used two 1959SLP 100 watt Marshall heads and 1969 4x12 cabs with celestian speakers. Here in lies t...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Happy to share what I’ve learned regarding his 90s electric guitar tones, particularly when he played live if anyone is interested? Go ahead! Ready for some uber-geekery? Okay, here goes! Most of this pertains to the 90s tones as he has changed his set up in the 2000s and 2010s. Glastonbury 1998 an...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

No doubt a lot of it is in the fingers, but those double tracked acoustics on end of a century are so lush in the high end. For tomorrow also has a sound on the intro that is unique imo. Glorious. I spend a lot of time trying to reverse engineer the sounds of my fave records, and these have me stum...

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Yep, very similar to On Your Own. Might be an even shorter delay time for Entertain Me - I can’t remember as it’s been a while since I tried to recreate it but On Your Own delay setting is in the right ball park. FYI I think he also uses a really short delay on Stereotypes too but with the feedback ...

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Re: the effect that Graham uses, I’m pretty sure it’s a delay pedal (Boss Dd3) set on a very short delay time but with the feedback turned up. You get that kind of ringing shrill tone with it.
