Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I think The Now Now got a lot of uncalled shtick. It was obviously something in the line of The Fall. That being said, I think it could have been better produced. For instance, Tranz is a fantastic song that suffers a lot from very minimalistic production. Take the live version, it has so much energ...

That surprises me that you weren't that impressed, each to their own i guess.
I do have to admit that I need to listen more to them. I can see Désolé growing on me.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I hate these kinds of album releases. One song at a time, one per month. Boring. Hate it. Just give us the whole thing at once so we can enjoy it. I'm still a fan of the old school method of 1-2 singles prior to the album release. Anyway, haven't really been up to date with this whole Song Machine ...

Blur album non-single songs top 10

At least one song per album. No b-sides, only album tracks.

In no particular order:

1) Ambulance
2) Badhead
3) Death of a Party
4) Sing
5) Trimm Trabb
6) Blue Jeans
7) He Thought of Cars
8) My Terracotta Heart
9) Strange News from Another Star
10) This Is a Low

Yes, I'm bored.

I used to love this thread. So, due to the quarantine this past month, I've watched A LOT of movies. Asterisk (*) marks rewatches. Error in Tender

Right before Graham's solo, at the 3:59-4:00 mark, I swear you can hear a cut of Damon's verse. He's about to sing "Tender is..." and you can barely hear the letter "T" before it cuts to the guitar solo.

Am I the only one who's noticed this?

Re: blur - 2001

Yes, I also remember that Graham contributed somehow to the song, perhaps in the demo? But I don't think his work featured anyhow in the final release. Otherwise, he would have been credited.

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Think Tank is a good album, but not a "blur" album. It's a "Blur" album as any Blur album is. I really can't stand this point of view. Just because a member is missing doesn't make the contribution of the remaining members obsolete. That's not what I meant. Don't get me wrong, I love Think Tank, an...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Yet Think Tank is a fantastic album. That's a matter of opinion. The Graham influence is clearly missing and it suffers for it. Think Tank is a good album, but not a "blur" album. Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

I agree with you TracyJosh. They are perfect together. But I think what others in this thread meant by collaboration is Humanz/Song Machine style collaboration. Playing music with all kinds of musicians from all over the world. That seems to be what Damon has been into for the last 15 years, not pl...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Naaaaahh, I have to disagree with a lot of what has just been said... Blur are actually a very collaborative band. Particularly in terms of British pop bands of the past 30 years. Damon may come up with the nucleus of the songs(sometimes more), but he doesn't really dictate to the rest of the guys ...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

I think he could have done it through blur if everyone else was on board with it. You think it's just the 4 of them all the time? most bands have loads of people working for them to create their sound / song writing etc. If you look at coldplay's setup they sound and are completely different a band...

Billie Eilish

Just curious to hear what Blur fans think about her. Personally, I started exploring her catalogue only a few days ago and I'm hooked. I really like the boldness and experimental outlook of her album, compared to her earlier stuff (albeit I think Ocean Eyes is absolutely delightful, and probably her...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

You guys think if Damon had not created Gorillaz he would have continued making music with Blur? Not in a million years. Damon has changed and evolved so drastically over the decades. For the last 15 years he's only cared about one thing and one thing only: collaborating. That's his main inspiration...

Re: Does anyone know who compiled Blur: The Best Of?

Does not do justice to Blur's superbly rich catalogue but as a commercially successful compilation it does its job.
