Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Yo - not actually bovvered whether he focuses on Blur or Gorillas TBH. The last Blur album was, for me, the most disappointing thing he's ever been involved with. I'd just like there to be a bit more quality control on his songs, however he decides to badge them. Someone at the record company to sa...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

If Damon wants people singing along to his songs at festival shows or other huge concerts, Blur wins hands down, every time. I remember how disappointed he seemed when hardly anyone sang along to his Gorillas set at Glasto (in 2010?) the year after people went nuts for Blur on the same stage. Perso...

Re: Ray Davies - The Deal (& Look Inside America)

Not bad.
Here's a song I discovered recently about Ray Davies by M Nevin (of Fairground Attraction).
Mildly amusing! www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MjWTK0anUU

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

*awaiting usual Sledge Hammer comment about how Damon is wasting time with Gorillaz and should return making music with Blur* Isn't he? No. The sad truth is that there are not as many people interested in hearing a Blur album than there is a Gorillaz album. Damon's songs and ideas will reach more p...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I don't remember Smith ever saying anything complimentary about Blur though, and maybe even slagged them off a bit. There is this delicious quote from his interview for Blah Blah Blah magazine, done in 1995: We played a concert recently in France and Blur were supporting us. The whole front ten row...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

It's v interesting from a pop culture point of view. Smith was a huge global icon of the indie world in the 80s, and Albarn was a similar figure in the 90s. I don't remember Smith ever saying anything complimentary about Blur though, and maybe even slagged them off a bit. This new song? Underwhelmin...

Anyone know if there's a set-list?
There was a song with lyrics I recognised but seemed to be set to a different piece of music...

Re: the Good, the Bad & the Queen - the end?

 Who gets what gong has bugger all to do with the Queen! One of the Good - or more likely one of the Bad - will have put him forward... The quote I heard was; "One is deeply fond of the GBQ album particularly the song 80's Life (as one was in ones 80s on its release) and the title track as it ...

Re: the Good, the Bad & the Queen - the end?

Been listening to the second GBQ recently for first time in yonks. Pleasantly surprised. But I'd say it's still good rather than great. 7/10 rather than the first one's 9/10. Still, it's miles better than The Magic Whips (which I just find an effort to sit through). Anyone else hear the rumour that ...

Re: Blur fan first and foremost or Damon Albarn fan?

An interesting approach to this question is what would you rather see live? A Blur concert or a Damon one? Although I generally prefer Blur to Damon's other stuff, the two GBQ albums are better than quite a few Blur albums. And I like quite a few Gorillaz songs. When I saw Damon at the Albert Hall a...

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Not for me. I loved TGE when it was first released, grew to despise it as I grew older, but have come to love it again. Yes there are some sloppy moments (Mr Robinson's Quango, Topman) and some of the lyrics and themes are a little outdated, but it's an enjoyable listen. Best Days is stunning. He T...

Re: Blur record sales update

Strikes me as pretty high, too. I would've guessed at half the number. Is there a list of Blur singles that have sales certifications? My guess at the biggest selling ones would be something like: Country House (way ahead). Then (in no particular order). Parklife, There's No Other Way, Tender, Charm...

Liking 'Confirmation' by a chap I'd never head of before called Westerman.
It's got a good beat!
