Re: Superstate by Graham Coxon

I've noticed that a number of (to my mind) big records by important artists have largely fallen off the reviews/round-ups circuit.... I think perhaps people of our generation just have to accept that our favourite artists are just not as bankable or interesting to the mass-market as we'd like them ...

Good points windymiller - I am not against progress, but the 'old days' seemed more definitive :)

Re: Graham on Phil Taggart's slacker podcast

I suppose it is easy to mix up 'She's So High' and 'There's No Other Way'

The former being the first hit single, and the latter being the first BIG hit single, certainly in the UK

Re: Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows

Yes I like both singles - 'Polaris' by Damon and 'Yoga Town' by Graham.

I agree it is great that they are both getting BBC 6Music airplay.

If this was the 90s, they would both be top ten hits :)

My favourite comment there is 'Noel Gallager is the Noddy Holder to Albarn's Bowie.'
:D a great comment.

Re: "Caught Beneath The Landslide" Britpop compilation

An interesting track list on that album. And it is best not to define the boundaries of musical genres. There are many overlaps - Radiohead can readily tie-in with the out & out 'Britpop' of that period, just as e.g. David Bowie overlapped with the teenybop aspect of 'glam' (The Sweet etc). However,...

I always liked the 1997-Blur era style with cargo and baggy trousers, logo shirts and jumpers. Also notable are his Vans and Adidas (since Parklife) and white trainers.
Yes, agree.

Yes, I hesitate to say that there was any loss of potency, though I tend to judge it by top ten single success.

The 91/93/94/95/97/99 run of Blur albums is simply amazing, Gorillaz and the rest of it comes nowhere near.
I agree about the run of Blur albums, but the first two Gorillaz albums and 'Happiness In Magazines' by Graham were also very good.

I like Paul, but to be polite, he is now looking and sounding his age  , in comparison to e.g. Mick Jagger who seems to be wearing the years quite well.

Re: 1994 US Tour

I think that Blur had plenty to be going on with in the UK in autumn 1994, and a prolonged north American tour would have been a distraction.

Yes, in the original run of albums, or certainly up to '13', Blur were the main thing happening at the time.

Re: Blur - The Magic Whip

Just played it again the other day, and it seems to stand up very well in comparison to the original (1991-2003) run of albums.
