Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

Haha, yes, I think the fact the albums sound so different stylistically masks some of their similarities. They're definitely both Blur albums! I wonder what marks out Yuko and Hiro for the band? I mean like the ones I've mentioned above I could certainly hear it on the s/t if the production was ton...

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

yuko and hiro was the window into the self titled album, so the band say

but i agree there are elements of other songs that with a slightly different tone could have opened into the self titled album. They are the same band afterall :D

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

You make a good point on the celebrating (parklife) / mocking (tge). It's still British but there's a clear difference

I guess it's a matter of opinion but I have no problem dancing to the tracks I've already mentioned, slow or not

In great Blur management fashion, they'll quietly release this via some redundant medium... vimeo sounds shit... and no real major publications will give a shit.

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

I think we've had a thread like this recently? I say recently maybe in the last few years? I like it...I can listen to it all the way through and often revisit it. What I can't do is overplay it regularly, it starts to get very irritating. There's some great guitar work so that for me its enough to ...

Re: DARE

Gorillaz don't have fast tracks. Even 19/2000 is slow as hell. Only the Soulchild Remix makes it danceable. Same for DARE. Andromeda, Strobelite, Lake Zurich, Tranz, Magic City, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc, All Alone, Kids with Guns. Dare to me has a very odd rhythm, I'm not a musician I couldn't te...

Re: B-Roads

As much as I want it to leak maybe the reason that people are keeping such a guarded attitude towards it leaking is because they do plan on releasing it someday. They're clearly aware of its potential based on this article. Maybe waiting for the right timing or anniversary. It clearly would have be...

I agree it's a bit slow. DJs typically speed it up slightly when playing it out
That might explain it a little bit. 2005 was my uni days so I probably only ever heard it in clubs

DARE

I've just listened back to this track for the first time in about 10 years. My recollection of it was a funky dance track but it's got this real prominent synth behind it that slows the track right down and makes it kinda trippy and hard to listen to it. Weird.

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

It's all been a bit meh for me, the stand out track for me was the first one; Momentary Bliss. Maybe i'm just at an age where I don't appreciate the current trends. I think there is some truth in this Stephen. It can get to a point, e.g. for those aged 35+, when you no longer get over-excited over ...

Re: Gorillaz tour 2021

Scary to think they've been around for 20 years now. I think the majority of the audience, at least down the front, last time I saw them a couple of years ago in Birmingham weren't even old enough to remember them when they started. I felt so old, 50 next year. But then the exact opposite for TGTBA...
