Quite enjoyed that, thought the backing singer in particular was good

Re: B-Roads

I've always found it rich indeed that the few who've had access have been so sanctimonious about "protecting the band's reputation" and "honoring the band's wishes" -- but only after watching it themselves, and in some cases (cough, Black Book) even directly profiting off of it. Well, I hope they f...

Re: Courteeners - Tender

They had a good single which I think was called Not Nineteen Forever, can't say as I've heard anything else they've done though, will check out their Tender cover in the morning

Re: Is The Great Escape the worst Blur album?

No, TGE has the most commercial singles in blur's career (which isn't a bad thing). Country House got me into blur, so I don't understand why there's so much hate to it. Songs that I don't like in the album are Fade Away, Mr Robinsons, Ernold Same, Dan Abnormal... leave them as b-sides and put No M...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

It reminds me of an old Alex James quote circa 2000 or so, when he said something along the lines of if you have 10 songs that could all be singles you don't need to release an album, you might as well release 10 singles. The new one is definitely an album track.

Re: Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows

It took a while for the Brussels shows to be officially postponed. I suppose some like to delay the official announcement/adjustment of websites for as long as possible, even though it seems rather inevitable. Yeah I think you are right Liese, I also have tickets to a show on Clapham Common for nex...

Re: Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows

The Palladium gig is a bit strange, I'm sure I had an email through from bandsintown weeks ago telling me the show has been cancelled, but still appears to have tickets available on many sites...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I think The Now Now got a lot of uncalled shtick. It was obviously something in the line of The Fall. That being said, I think it could have been better produced. For instance, Tranz is a fantastic song that suffers a lot from very minimalistic production. Take the live version, it has so much ener...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

I do have to admit that I need to listen more to them. I can see Désolé growing on me. Got to say I really like Désolé reminds me a lot of his Mali Music album and would certainly be one of the better songs on there - I really like that aspect of Damon's work, although I don't know nearly enough ab...

Re: Reykjavik tips?

Many thanks folks. I've a Northern Lights tour booked for the first night (fingers crossed), Golden Circle tour booked, and also a trip to the Blue Lagoon (very excited about that). Superb you'll have a great time I'm sure. Should you feel inspired to check out the formerly/possibly currently part ...

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

Release near start of January was a definite tactic and subsequently copied by the likes of the Manic Street Preachers to great effect (think they got two NO. 1s that way). Whoever worked on Blur's releases was pretty switched on (see also the 2 CD singles for Country House which gave a huge advant...

Re: Does anyone know who compiled Blur: The Best Of?

Whilst I agree with many of those choices Putting Lonesome Street in or Ong Ong feels entirely wrong to me. I'm not really sure Blur have released enough since the last 2 compilations to justify another greatest hits set and in the days of streaming I'm not sure there's that much demand for it.

Re: Beetlebum: reaction at the time

I wouldn't say there was a backlash to Beetlebum as such, but Blur definitely featured less heavily in a lot of sections of the pop-centric media following that, unclear if by design or a rejection from the mainstream or a bit of both. I remember the NME (or possibly Melody Maker) claiming it was de...
