Re: Superstate by Graham Coxon

After having listened to the whole album a few times: I like it! I'm not a super fan of Graham playing funky, tho (like on Uncle Sam , or I Don't Wanna Wait For You --- not mentionning the slap bass on The Astral Light which is really meh). I mean, he can certainly do the job guitarwise, no doubt, b...

Graham on Phil Taggart's slacker podcast

I just came across this episode of Phil Taggart's podcast published one month ago featuring Graham. (It's available on Spotify, and probably other platforms.) One hour long interview, with some interesting moments. Graham says the Superstate project started aaaaaages ago (apparently, the very first ...

yup - the mullet went at least 2 days ago...
Now that's precise. Maybe we can add the date to the Hairography section? :)

"Caught Beneath The Landslide" Britpop compilation

I just came across this (very) recent publication of a 3-CD Britpop compilation: https://www.allmusic.com/album/caught-beneath-the-landslide-mw0003493728 I'm not familiar with every single one of the acts/songs presented there, but I feel they tried to come up with something like "songs you don't ex...

Re: The Beatles Thread

I love this Ram album! Clearly one of Paul's best solo works, imo.

Btw, did you know that Graham was born the very day Paul and Linda got married? How fascinating is that piece of trivia for Blur + Beatles/McCartney fans? ;)

There's still think tank session tracks that have never been given the light of day that I'm desperate to hear
Hm, they did publish Nutter, Piano and Avoid The Traffic... If you consider those were amongst the best of what they could find left in the Think Tank sessions, well...

Re: Blur demo tape containing unreleased demo?

Talking about early-early-never-heard demos... At the beginning of the loooong rehearsal version of She's So High which is on the Rarities 1 CD, at around 20" (after the initial beat pattern stops), you can hear some backward music for a short while, i.e. that's some leak of what was recorded on the...

Re: Gorillaz - Song Machine

Well, of course, a Dom Pérignon '46 is objectively better tasting than some infamous cider. But to re-focus on the main question, which was about the Blur-tiny-world (band + solos + collaborations), imho, wondering "Is The Kiss Of Morning better than Demon Days ?" is like comparing two bottles of a ...

Re: The Divine Comedy - new box set

Absolutely not.
It's off the Victory For The Comic Muse album, and imho, its highlight is A Lady Of A Certain Age, possibly Neil Hannon's best song ever.
I also like To Die A Virgin, Mother Dear, and Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World better than Snowball In Negative. Very solid album.

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Wow. Thanks again, this is all very precious information! I'll take good note of all of that. Girls And Boys : are we talking of the settings for the main riff's flanger bit ( F chord strummed), or the high-pitched lick in the ending? I always thought Chemical World was through a vibrato, not a flan...

Re: The Jaded Hearts Club

a boring run through of some uninteresting classics. Wow. I wouldn't call Reach Out I'll Be There uninteresting... An epic Motown standard, imho, though in the Jaded Hearts' version, Matt Bellamy (or whoever holds the bass) completely messes up the bass part (but how could you possibly top ...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

Thanks so much for all this information. :o Recently bought a BF-2 and need to play with it a bit more but pretty sure I've worked out Girls and Boys, Popscene and Chemical World settings (which is definitely a flanger by the way and not the VB-2). I can put these up if anyone is interested? Yep, I'...

Re: What acoustic guitar was used on MLIR/Parklife?

I think Stephen Street used the old trick of recording two acoustic tracks and panning then hard left and right to give that stereo spread. That's indeed what's done on For Tomorrow , and can clearly be heard on the acoustic version that was published as a B-side. I recently bought a DD Boss pedal,...

Happy to share what I’ve learned regarding his 90s electric guitar tones, particularly when he played live if anyone is interested?
