Liner notes

Credits inside the album booklet.

Chladni plate
The album's booklet features
Chladni plates that were manipulated by
Damon's dad, Keith Albarn.

Please note: For info on 2012's "Special Edition", see Blur 21.

  • For this album, Damon Albarn was heavily inspired by the recent split-up with his long-term girlfriend, Justine Frischmann.
  • The album title comes from Damon's 13 studio where the album was partly recorded. Other titles thought of for the album were Blue and When You're Walking Backwards To Hell, No One Can See You, Only God.
  • "Tender" has been described as "space rock gospel" and features The London Community Gospel Choir.
  • "Coffee & TV" is written and performed by Graham. It's about his love/hate relationship with Camden.
  • "Swamp Song" was originally to appear as a B-side for "Tender", but was included on the album at the last minute.
  • Third single "No Distance Left To Run" was first recorded in Barcelona in May 1997 (during the same session as "Swallows In The Heatwave" and "Optigan 1"). William Orbit re-recorded the song later with the band.
  • Total running time (UK ver.): 66:52
